Incident at Gallerius Village

Who'd have thought that our little village would become the centre of the world, if only for a movement?
— Gallerian villager
And centre of the world Gallerius Village became during a particular incident a half-dozen years ago. A village in need, saved at the last moment by reinforcements from a neighbouring settlement; it is the stuff of legend. The event also laid bare simmering tensions between the Jhanté and the Din of the Inkuna Forest, and catapulted Wolendius Curathen into the spotlight. But enough preamble...what happened?

Laying Siege

Gallerius Village is hardly close to the major battlefields of the war between the Gojoth Tree Corps and the terrifying Inkuborn. That means that, when the Inkuborn did invade the village, the small gathering of Gojoth were hopelessly overwhelmed. Sending out a pair of runners to nearby Wolend Village for aid, they erected a palisade around their camp and brought the village folk inside.

Reinforcements and Resolution

Wolendius, still a Healer at that time, immediately led the entire contingent of Gojoth in Wolend Village to Gallerius Village. But when he arrived, he discovered that the townsfolk were wary of the Gojoth, a couple even downright hostile towards them.   He put into practice his ability to carefully listen to demands and asked the Din to explain why they were so cautious of the Gojoth. He learned a great deal about their worries - many of which are elaborated on in the sidebar. Using the information, he gained their support.

Trees Slick With Blood

Arming the villager as best as they could and preparing a solid surprise attack, the Gojoth and the Din villagers sprung into action. Thankfully, most of the Inkuborn were relatively routine types which the Gojoth were experienced in facing. Still, the battle saw significant losses, either directly or through Inkusel infections. The village was spared for another day, and the Gojoth came out of the encounter more conscientious and understanding than they had previously been.

Lingering Tensions

Just because the Din and the Jhanté were able to work together this once does not mean that all of their problems are solved. The Din still feel they are underrepresented in the Gojoth's fight against the Inkuborn.   For example, of the dozens of Healers in the Gojoth Tree Corps, only two of them are Din. Din candidates to the title of Grand Gojoth also have extreme difficulty in winning votes from non-Din. All this to say that the Din's apathy toward the Gojoth is not out of snobbishness or disinterest, but rather a lack of inclusion from the Jhanté-led organization.
