Fire Prince

The Fire Princes are the bureaucrats of evil, the architects of sacrilege, the squabbling Noble Dæmons of the Nobles. They act as the CEOs of their own portions of the the Tortuous Fire, each taking to a particular aspect of what sophonts would call evil. Some are Princes of the gallows, of the gambling hall, of the battlefield, of the frothing waves of oil. They aren't even bad news; they are the worst news that someone could ever get.

Appointment

The Fire Princes are, unlike the name might suggest, not hereditary titles. In fact, the relatives of a recently-deceased Fire Prince will be hard pressed to take their place, as anyone who covets the power that the Princes have will be gunning for the empty spot. Each time a Prince dies, the rest of the Noble Dæmons have a bloody war between themselves to determine who they want to be the next one. Only the one that earns the fear of the rest of the Nobles will have any chance of filling the vacant throne.

Top of the Food Chain

The Fire Princes are like the gods of the Fire. Similarly, getting them angry is liable to getting yourself smitten, er, smote, um...well, depending on the Prince in question, it could be both. I suppose...
— A planar traveller
The Fire King is dead and has been for longer than even the oldest among the Princes could remember. That means that the big decisions in the Fire are made by them. That hardly means that they work cooperatively. If anything, the exact opposite is true. The Fire Princes spend most of their days squabbling amongst each other and sending assassins and spies to undermine their competition. Since the recent influx of stolen and purchased souls from Earth need to live somewhere, each Prince is constantly trying to outbid their neighbours.

Domains of Depravity

Each Fire Prince informally chooses an area that they want to specialize their particular operation around. Some, like Keldian, Fire Prince of Thieves, focus their energy on small crimes like arson or theft. Others lean into the military aspects of dæmonic society, such as Amriyel, Fire Admiral of the Oil Sea. Still others are just there for the sheer hedonism of it all, such as Meriva, Fire Prince of Wiles. A couple of the Princes are so old that any semblance of a domain has long since faded into the background of the complex web of evil they have built. The only important thing for a sophont to know is to avoid them or their servants at all costs if they want to keep their souls intact.
