Amotra

We were just walking down the streets at night, mindin' our own business. Suddenly, these huge f-off moths came and ripped our lanterns out of our hands and flew away! They were massive, like the size of a person! I'm serious!   Little bit less look for Garakh, though. They grabbed onto her, seeing as she was doing magic light with her hands and whatnot, and they just flew off with her and dropped her from a height. She's okay, just very, very confused.

Faerie is home to dangerous animals and terrifying plant life. Those who travel regularly to the place know to keep a very good eye out for possible attackers, whether they be Fay or otherwise. Those who travel the fens and wetlands of the dimension know to look out for the Amotra. These moth-like creatures are violent creatures who would much rather live in the dark and with just enough intelligence to try and snuff out any light they find.

Appearance

The Amotra are usually described as giant moths, which is an apt description. Their great wings are fuzzy and covered in short dark-grey hair, and their eyes are dichoptic and multi-faceted like those of flies and other insects. A pair of small dark green antennae sprout from the top of their heads. The underside of their wings are so black that any light that touches it seems to vanish inside. Their bodies are usually dark brown in colour, but rarely ones with grey or black bodies have been seen. They have small thin arms and legs that they can retract and hide whenever they are not using them.

Behaviour and Avoidance Tactics

Amotra live in the swamps of Faerie, eating the occasional bug for food (or humanoids, although those tend to be a rare treat). The land is so hostile to them - as it is many other creatures - that they tend to be flighty, running away on their spindly legs or flying off at the first sign of trouble.    The sole exception to this instinctual cowardice is whenever they are confronted with a bright source of light. Woe betide the carrier of this light for, magical or otherwise, the Amotra will swarm the individual in an attempt to put out the light as soon as possible. They'll rip torches and lanterns out of hands and smash them against the ground, or viciously attack anyone creating magical light of any kind. Purposefully shining light in their huge bug eyes will make them go even more feral as they try to rip the offending humanoid to shreds. Because of this, the very very few who travel the swamps of Faerie know to never start a fire out in the fens, lest they attract the creatures.

Sightings in the Multiverse

Seeing as they are of low intelligence and rather bloodthirsty, the Fay do not associate with Amotra in any way. Very few civilized creatures of the Fay courts ever even attempt to travel through the bogs, although the Amotra aren't the only things there they are afraid of. Because of this, only the rarest of sightings ever occur in the rest of the multiverse, those ones usually being Amotra summoned to attack at night or those brought into the Multiverse by obscure cults who venerate them for some unknown reason.

'running away on their spindly legs' I would love to see this.   I like the warning about carrying lights. It's a little bit of a twist on real life moths.

I like the take on moths being attracted to flames--only these actively attack them.
