5: The Gloom Haven Job.
General Summary
Gil woke up the next morning and joined the party at breakfast having slept like the dead. Today they were to interrogate the tubby boss, and see where they were sending the slaves. Their plan is that hopefully both this lead and Allura's missing sister are in the same direction. Allura pushes that the Slavers are worse and her thing can wait if need be.
The meet up with Captian Anders. he notes the cell isn't very spacious so only Gil and Colleen can go and see him. they find the Sniper, Bodyguard, and tubby in the same cell. the big guy and Tubby aren't talking but the sniper, "Steven" isn't interested in dying. The bodyguard goes after Steven but Gil charms him and gets him to calm down and they bring Steven to another room that colleen has put Zone of Truth on.
Steven confides that their boat goes onto the next port and is unloaded. Gil notes they will probably need the boat to continue following the Slavers. The five of them head to the Confiscated Ship to inspect in aspects. they clear it of traps. to the Best of Gil's ability, he notes it's a fast ship. Faye responds asking if it belongs to them; which Anders said he would happily turn it over if the paperwork and fees were submitted. Allura had a brief stint at sea but other than that no one else had sailing experience. Thye makes a list of things needed, and head to the dockmaster. After some questions and filling out the paperwork, they all head to the inn to collect their things and transfer them to the boat.
Faye reveals that she loves Romance novels about pirates. They start to get settled while waiting for the Crew the Dockmaster was collecting for them and decide to return to the jail, to talk to tubbo. He manages the charm spell, They sail to the small town to meet up with Canrow; a drow man they hand off the slaves to. He also tells him about two goons and Like Tracy (the bodyguard) a badass one-eyed drow as his supposed second in command.
As they return to the ship Colleen expresses her excitement at getting to sail. Gil comments how she hasn't experienced much but complements her dancing from the other night and learns she likes flowers and the sun in addition to music.
As they return a Female Drow approaches asking if he is the captain, She names herself Shimyra and after some back and forth bluntly asks why he's the captain to which he says, because he bought the ship. He names her his first mate but confesses he plans to be learning from her. He asks her questions on how to go about captaining the ship in the proper manner. He resolves that he intends to take this seriously and do right by the Crew.
One Desk he's introduced to two human men and a Goblin. He lets them get back to work and does a once over of the ship to see if he can find any smuggler's hatches or anything; which turns up nothing. He heads back up on deck and talks with Allura and updates her to what they found. She reminds him that following the slavers might get harder the more they go. Gil wants to take it as far as they can, and they continue to help get the ship ready.
He returns to the captain's quarters where Faye is reading and has decorated some. They chatter a little about the first mate and crew before he leaves her (with a kiss) to study and go assist the crew. When he goes to help the men look at him oddly but go back to work. Anders checks up and gives Gil the completed paperwork and wishes him well on this travels. They set off for Gloomhaven. Shimyra notes she doesn't really like Gloom haven and they head off. Colleen at the front of the ship watching them sail up the channel looks in Awe and comments how gorgeous and happy she is getting to see the world and see it with Gil.
He heads back and learns the basics of working on a ship, then returns to his quarters to write some notes, and finds Faye napping. she wakes up and the two cuddle while talking about how far they've come, owning a ship and what to do with it past this port. Faye also notes that all her teaching has come from Archmage Kianna and she's not been telling her everything they've been doing; thinking she might freak out. They take the chance to enjoy the afternoon and relax after an eventful day.
They decide to wash up and join the crew on deck, this is when Gil noticed the back of her thighs had silvery; almost white scale on them. She comments that somewhere in her bloodline is a silver dragon, she doesn't know because her real mother gave her up to her adopted family. they head out on deck after and look over the river and the world went by. They chatter about what the sea would be like, and Gil thing about getting a hat to add to his adventurer look (which Faye didn't like) in case someone ever writes about them; until Stephens, a member of the crew approached. Shimrya wanted a word.
She wanted to again give Gil a heads up about the type of city they were going to and gave as much information as she could, telling him what little she knew about the Garcon Family and they shouldn't expect guards helping like in the last city. He acknowledged her and made a point that her first concern should be the safety of the crew and let them do the fighting. After that, she showed him the basics of steering the ship. After that they all went to eat; Allura's cooking.
He sat and got to bond with the crew over the food, the subject comes up of pirates and weather he expected the crew to be, which Gil said they were, as his plans were all above board. He also learns about some good ports. He comments that he imagines that he intends for them to ship cargo after they run these errands. After dinner, he and Faye go and check out the stars; before retiring to bed as he practices with minor illusions and tells her more stories.
That night he dreamt of an older, leggier Faye dancing with him. the next day is spent learning how to work a ship and with Faye.
The morning they make port; Gil wakes up and discusses with Faye the general plan; Ask them to release any slaves and what they are doing with them and if that doesn't work then fight. they head to breakfast surprised there are eggs and bacon ready. They all eat and Gil checks with Stephens on the wheel to make sure all is clear. He and Faye then go over the information they know Canrow, Tracy, and two bruises they know of are waiting. He lets Faye know he's nervous and she comforts him reminding him they're pretty badass and that she'll be near. with that, they head off to talk to update the others as to the plan.
After lunch he reiterates his orders that she and the crew are to do what they need to to stay safe, Shimrya states they all can fight and if boarded they will fight to make sure the ship stays safe.
In the afternoon they pull into the dock and are met with the Tracy looking confused. Gil tried to charm her but it didn't land so he switched to intimidation which worked as she dropped her weapon and headed towards the ship. that's when two orcs and Canrow emerge from a building causing Tracy to freeze. Gil gave him the pitch and Canrow jumped to attack.
Gil starts off by getting a pair of good shots on orc 1 and tries to get Tracy to bow out but that doesn't seem to land. the fight gets real quick. With Allura tanking a lot of his upfront from goons, orcs, and Canrow but the group quickly carves thru them with Tracy surrendering and Faye casting hold person on Canrow. They bind the remaining opponents and get them off the street to interrogate them. Canrow throws some threats their way but doesn't want to tell them who his boss is. Tracy is more than happy to tell him what she knows and isn't fond of Canrow at all. She seemed genuinely fearful of Canrow's bosses and wanted to get as far from this situation as possible. Colleen casts a zone of truth to keep everything truthful.
Canrow boasts that his boss Rico is coming and that the slaves get processed in Altarpiece. the group coming to pick up the next shipment of slaves should be there the next morning. They tried to get more information but Conrow wasn't talking so they gagged him and sent him along to the brig.
The conversation on that had to do with Tracy. they offer her a choice, she can join the crew to help them take down the ring. She reluctantly agrees and joins the crew. They also allow Conrow to be taken back to Anders to be tried for his crimes. they took Two Magic daggers that Faye also identifies as being slightly better (1) with some poison properties to it
They start preparing for the slaver caravan that's coming, this isn't reinforcements as much as it is just a guy and maybe a helper. They formulate a plan to limit the action to off the street and to spring a trap, making sure Faye is a distance away to be ranged support for the other three. With that Gil tries to Commune with Mo, he gets no answer but receives a book with notes of mo's true form blowing a kiss at him. Gil starts to go over the book and learns some new spells and rituals. He spends the afternoon using his new spells and trying to impress the girls. He gives Faye and Colleen a cursory summation of how his relationship with Mo works but doesn't get too into it. Day turns to night and everyone has a nice dinner that Allura prepares and Gil helps with. He earns points with the crew by helping with the cooking and serving the crew. Faye studies, Gil uses his new guidance spell to help her with that.
The Next morning as Gil and Allura talk next steps. the fight no matter how quiet will probably draw eyes. they decided after the battle to have the ship work cargo jobs and they will continue inland.
They set the trap and gather up any paperwork they can to send back for the arrests. Two men come a dark-skinned human and a young Dwarf. they are easily captured without a fight. Gil spells out to the young dwarf he's been serving a slaver ring that follows Lolth, and finds they take the slaves north to Washbourne they are dropped off to a man named Raymond, and they get an address. he lets the young boy go and puts the human with Conrow to be arrested. The boss gives a description of where they are going and what the guards do before they go. With that, they pack up and get ready to part ways with the ship in the morning.
that night Mo appears to Gil, Mo admits she's pretty new to all this and answers Gil's question about how far the slave thread will go but maintains it's all up to him which path he wants to follow. Gil thanks her for the new stuff. For the moment Mo doesn't have anything for him but she's working on something. he also asks for advicse on each of the girls. Mo replies he's doing fine with Faye, he needs to get Allura in the sack and Colleen is a mystery to her. Mo flirts and teases him about his fondness for beautiful women and reminds him that's why she's in the form he's in. the plays like she's going to give him a very good dream then bids him next time and lets him wake.
He wakes the next morning to Faye mentioning he was talking in his sleep and points out it. they all get dressed and packed then grab the cart and head inland.
