1: The Vondervills Job
General Summary
In Greywall; Gillander MacKellag was called to appear before his Boss Makiel of the Thieves guild. Eager to prove himself and impress her he agrees to a job to go to meet Tristan at The Dogfish Tavern . At his request and Gil is set to get ready and lead for the meeting.
As he gets ready Kaire comes in to see what he's up to and wish him well on his job. Gil assures her he'll be back soon and in better standing. He grabs a horse and hits the road to West Hampton so he can make good time.
After he makes camp the night he is attacked by some wolves which he dispatches with a little problem but is victorious and managed to strip the carcass for hides and meat. As always that night he dreamt of the Sword.
the next day he arrived at his destination around midday and met with Tristan, who redirect him to a meeting at the docks late that night. Gil finds a room at the The Foggy Inn across the street and once he sets his stuff down spends the day looking over the town.
At night he sneaks to a warehouse where he happens upon Tristan and Allura who catches him sneaking up and putting her swords to his throat. After introductions are made Tristan Mentioned the large manor at the Edge of town that Belonged to the Vondervills and that he needs Gil and Allura to pose as a work for some recon. Allura will go in the morning and Gilat midday looking for work; then they will meet the next night to update.
Gil gets up the next morning pays his room off for a week and then headed to get some clothes tailored to look the part; then gets a job moving barrels than in the fields. He uses that time to case the grounds and keeps his head down for the day. He reports back to Tristen and Allura to compare notes about what they found. Allura mentions there are no guards she's seen which is odd for a manor that size unless the owner was a powerful magic user. Tristen is going to visit the next day but emplores them that they shouldn't know each other. With that, they Break.
the next day as Tristen visits and Gil works the field; he notices a trellis that should be easily scalable from the outside. when they meet that night Tristen informs them that there's a lot of magic on the items they're looking for. Allura says she has the downstairs layout in her mind and describes it for Gil so he can sketch out a map. Tristen says he's going to be out of town researching how to get bast the magical defenses. Allura and Gil decide to still meet to compare notes.
Three more days pass as they recon and sketch out more of the compound. As they meet on the third day they both hear a scuffle in the building. They go to investigate and find Faye . they draw their weapons on her as she hides among some crates. she panics but explains Tristan sent her. Tristen was busy and sent her in his stead. she hands him a magic note that a mini Tristen illusion appears. they Talk to Tristan who vouches for her. He states he can't scry into the building and he needs Gil to go with Faye to spoof the wards so they are not detected.
they decide to go right then and there. The two of them go to dig up ad spoof all the wards. Slowly they work their way around spoofing one ward to another until the last one on top of the manor was left. he and Faye managed to make it there and back and all three got away scot-free. Then they return to town Faye mentions he's as good as she's heard. he's happy she's heard of him and invites her to have some ale with him. Faye mentions that Tristan is her mentor like Makiel is his. they bond a little over both coming from farms. they talk about her magic powers and that he never had the patients to learn from books so he'd be crap at it, but complimented her abilities. They get a little tipsy and retire to his room but he gives her a shirt and after one weak come on takes the bedroll on the floor to give her the bed.
He quietly leaves in the morning and does his daily recon and meets up with the girls. They contact Tristen who is happy with their progress and says they should make a run at the place tonight. also that the reason for the job is they owe Makiel money. Tristen is keeping an eye and they decide to make a run at it the next night. Once it's decided they all go to Gil's Inn and have dinner. they ideally chatter, but after dinner, Allura heads off and Faye and Gil head to his room. they talk about the job tomorrow. Faye is a little nervous and worried for Gil. Gil uses that to compliment her magic and flirt with her a little before they relax and go to bed.
He goes back to work in the morning and observes a Red tiefling with slicked-back brown hair and a nice blue cloak with simple robes. After a bit, he hears a commotion and the lord of the manor yelling at the tiefling who then goes and checks all the wards and sees they are tampered with then returns in and doesn't leave. He catches Allura briefly to try to see if she knows what's going on, but she says to wait until later. At their meeting, Allura notes the Master is leaving for a party but they're beefing up security.
Armed with that knowledge they decide to proceed and they quickly head off so they can execute their plan. they sneak to the grounds and Gil sees the armed guards on the grounds and a sniper in on the roof. Gil volunteers to take out the sniper and manages to get a kiss good luck from Faye. He sneaks around back and backstabs the assassin and gets another good shot on him to take him out before he can make a sound. He surveys the grounds and relays the 4 front and 3 back guards to Allura and Faye. He gets back to them and they discuss what's going on and wonder what Tristan is doing. they move away and contact him. Tristen lets them know the big score is in the cellar and the stuff in the master's room is personal stuff. Also, they should worry about the blue robe tiefling.
they quickly make a plan leaving Faye with a scroll of fireball as a last resort outside and Allura and Gil come in. they head in but then the mage guy comes in but doesn't see them. they wait and he gets the drop on the mage. Allura manages to knock him out. They bind and gag him quickly, then move on to the cellar. Gil quickly opens the three locks. They sacked the vault and Allura takes it out and Gil heads up to the bedroom. He finds the safe just as he hears the front door open. He quickly opens the safe as he hears someone calling for Didrich who he assumes is the tiefling. As people are rushing upstairs he unlocks the window and jumps out and takes off running. once he gets away he checks his loot and then meets up with Faye (who hugs him) and Allura. They grab their horses and start back for Greywall.
they head back to town and Gil says he'll take them to the guild and introduce them to Makiel but warns them of her enchanting beauty. He tells them some of the theories the other guildies have about her including, she's a runaway princess wanting a life of adventure, of the daughter of the thief King. Gil thinks she's a goddess slumming it on the mortal realm.
He gets to the Guildhall and arranges for rooms for his friends, as he goes to her office. Allura is a little wary of letting Makiel and Gil decide the cuts but he assures her his boss is fair and he heads to divvy it up. He discussed the mission and told Makiel that Faye and Allura were great but Tristan just left and really never returned. They go over the haul. 60k in gold bars some more platinum, a ring, and some papers. they decided the 30K is what the guild is owed and the rest they would divvy up when Tristen arrived.
Gill got them all set up in the dorms and they relaxed. He and Faye talked; she mentioned going back to The Coister for her studies but Gil advocated for her to keep working with him. he confided in her the dreams of the sword that drew him to the city. A magic Sword he's convinced exists. He takes her to a tavern to dance, they drink and talk more. she mentions she met Tristan at the Cloister and how she ended up at the school after she almost burned down some parts of the farm with her magic. He finds out also that Tristan was at the party with the lord of the manor and had to be there to not arouse suspicion. They drink dance and then head back to eat and then retire for the night. Gil shows her to her room. they flirt just a little more and She kisses him.
The next morning Tristan was there with Allura and Faye. they talked about the job. Tristan knew the mage they tied up. As they eat Malkiel messages Gil and summons everyone to their office. Meikel heaps praise on them all and give faye and Allura their cut. After the awards, Gil stayed behind to talk to Makiel about his future.
Gil reiterates his desire to find the Sword in his dreams and they talk about keeping the group together at least for another job. Makiel is for this and has a mayor that has contacted her about a job.
An Abandoned Mansion that has been locked up for 75 years, and the town has gotten superstitious. She wants to talk to the girls before they leave in a few days.
Gil meets them all outside asks Tristen to identify his ring and then discusses the new job with the girls. Allura is game and heads off to train. Faye and Gil talk and Gil mentions their cut is more than he's ever seen and he wanted to buy something pretty for Faye. they head into town and do some shopping, He buys her a really nice dress, and himself a jacket.
They catch up with Tristan who tells them it's a ring of Free action and it'll be great for a rouge-like Gil. He mentions he's heading back to the cloister in the morning. He said Faye was in fact good to join them but should stop by the cloister to pick up books for study on their travels.
The next few days he spend with Faye, showing her his favorite spots in the city for bards or to look at the stars, until they were summoned to Makiels office to embark on their mission on morning 4.
