Currencies of Era

Every major nation of Era mints its own coins, these coins are made from precious materials, like platinum, gold, silver, copper, obsidian, bronze. There are also other materials used as currency because of their inherent value and small size.

Valar Empire

VE coins are used universal in the Empire and accepted in almost every place of the world, with exception of Akhatai. Obverse of the coin is commonly called "heads" and reverse are called "crowns".
There are four main coins minted in every Valarie:   The most common coin of VE is the Gold Valar, this coin has a disc shape, and nice weight to it, 50 Valars weight one pound.
On the obverse is the portrait of the Valar who was in power at the time of minting.
On the reverse is the Crown of the Valarie.
Some of Gold Valars minted after the Third Incursion have the portrait of Nero on obverse, these coins currently have sentimental value, many keep one as a good luck token.   Platinum Magister is a large and heavy elliptic coin made from pure platinum, these coins are rare and worth 100 Gold Valars each.
There coins are minted and then covered with handmade engravings that usually represent the cityscape of Valarie capitol on obverse and representation of Valaries Crown on reverse with floral art surrounding it. Each coin is unique.   Silver Noble is a small square coin with rounded edges, there is a small hole on the top of the coin, these coins are worth 1 quarter of Gold Valar each.
On the obverse is a portrait, most often of a local noble, but in some cases also of a important historical figure, local clerics, merchants and such.
On the reverse is the Crown of the Valarie
One can pay to have their likeness on the coin, either for vanity or marketing reasons.   Copper Penny is a tiny round copper coin with a large hole in the middle, these coins are worth 1/100th of Gold Valar and 1/25th of Silver Noble. Most pennies have only a single crown on both obverse and reverse.
This coin is used in small value transaction, buying everyday necessities. These coins are more common in small communities, villages and such.

Akhatai

Land of the Prophets have three types of coinage:   Dragon is a disc shape coin, slightly heavier and larger than Gold Valar. The exchange rate is around 3 Gold Valars for every Dragon, but it can vary greatly. Dragon is made from gold, silver and copper alloy giving it a unmistakable gold-red color. If melted that color changes to deeper red, which makes Dragons nearly impossible to counterfeit. On obverse there is a picture of a coiled dragon, with its name. On reverse there is a sign of the High Prophet of the minting territory. On the edge there is a year of mint.   Deci is a small, elongated, elliptic coin, with two holes at the ends, worth 1/10th of the Dragon. It is made from nickel alloy that closely resembles silver. On both obverse and reverse there is a silhouette of a dragon in flight. On the edge there is a year of mint.   Cent is a even smaller, more elongated, elliptic coin, also with two holes at the ends, worth 1/100th of the Dragon. It is made from bronze. It has no specific markings.

Clans of Dwarfkind

Many Clans, especially these located close to Valar Empire, or even withing its borders use their currency. They often mint their own coins similar to these of VE. In many Clans there are also Mag (Token in Common), these are small stone coins, carved with an intricate pattern, these only work within the dwarven city or the Clan itself. Mag are mostly used among lower castes.

Blackglade

All major currencies of Era can be used within Blackglade.
Drow have their own currency as well:
Onyx Ingum are disc shaped coins made from Onyx, they are featureless. Ingum value depend on disc diameter. They are widely used both in Blackglade and in the rest of Drow controlled underdark.

Universal

Gems are used as secondary currency all over Era. Their greatest advantage is small size, weight and concealability. The main problem that their value is often unclear, gems are difficult to use directly with merchants, a merchant skilled with appraising might be worse for user than an unskilled one. Withing Valar Empire owner of the gem can go to the local Royal Guild of Bankers headquarters and get a professional appraisal, unfortunately that is only possible in the largest cities. Gems are valuable due to their usage in jewelry, as spell components and material for both enchanting and artificing.   Shards (Portal Stone) are the remnants of Old Empire portals, they are used as secondary (and sometimes primary) currency everywhere on Era. Their value depends on weight, some merchants dealing with mundane merchandise will not accept Shards, while magical shops might only accept these.
