Bullywugs Ethnicity in The Lines Inbetween | World Anvil

Bullywugs

Bullywugs are a large, toad-like amphibious race which primarily live in the jungles of the Stormwood. Their origins are unknown, and they are rarely found outside of their homeland, though it is not totally unheard of.
  Society
Bullywug society is very slow, decentralized and libertarian. There is no formal monetary system like in most of Dragonskull, but rather they trade services and goods. There is no kind of formal military, and there is very little government, mostly being relegated to groups of individual Bullywugs who simply agree to certain rules for certain regions within the Stormwood, as well as an agreement or understanding in regards to the defense of the Stormwood.
Though it is rare, there is inter-community conflict in the Stormwood, usually caused by disagreements on the value of goods and services. In more notable cases, much of the Stormwood has banded together to bring down any attempt at centralizing Bullywug society.
  Language
Language is an odd thing for those born in the Stormwoods. In terms of written language, Bullywugs conform to a unique type of language in which stories and ideas are embedded into architecture, the intricacies of which are taught to Bullywugs from a very young age.
The first facets of this language are taught by the parents of tadpoles, by showing them how to craft tools, clothes, and other everyday items. The way a tool is crafted and the materials it is made out of influence the story or idea these are supposed to represent.

Later, teenaged to young adult Bullywugs are taught about the sacred art of housecrafting, a fancy word to denominate how ones entire life story, heritage and moral codes are tied into the very fabric of ones house. In this, all Bullywugs born in the Stormwood have their own house. Furniture within houses represent ideas about hospitality, friendship, or possibly one individuals willingness to others.
Spoken language in the Stormwoods is a mixture of grunts and other noises you may expect toads to make, along an extensive native sign language vocabulary. Most Bullywugs also know common, but it is almost never their mother tongue, and it is only learnt for the purpose of communicating with the outside world.
  Biology
Bullywug populations rise very slowly if at all. Female Bullywugs give birth to many tadpoles but very few of these survive, and it is common of Bullywugs to be fiercly protective of their children that do survive, as well as strict and authoritarian in their education. All of this combines to have a unique enviromental effect, where the Bullywug population is highly in tune with their natural enviroment. The Stormwood is one of the healthiest natural enviroments on the planet, similar to the Elephant Wood of the People of Dusk.
