E'lan Desert

E'lan is the former home of the S'sthrax empire, a fierce collection of Yu'anti who controlled the region in the early days of the Elven Empire. Their god had claimed this area after the fall of Rotha and burrowed deep into her corpse as she became the land. This corruption stayed and infested the very geology and ecosystem, and from this the scaled sands were born. Over the centuries the S'sthrax held sway and attempted to expand the sands many times. Eventually they were broken and scattered by the Elven Empire, but the curse of the land was too much even for Elven technology or magic. The Arcway was built as a major way to cross the desert in relative safety and the military stations along it were enough to keep the scaled remants of the deserts former glory at bay.

Geography

The E'lan desert is located in the southern regions of Rotheria. It is a rocky and desolate area, the sands and sharp black and bown rocks that rise or are exposed from its core are remanants of an ancient battle that took place before the scaled sands consumed the land. It is a relatively flat area, there are some larger hills that crest from the dunes, but overall the desert is composed of large hilly dunes that sweep across the landscape. There are some small plateaued areas as well and the whole region rests in a bowl shaped depression that defines the geography in this part of Rotheria. After the fall and the degradation of the Arcway the sands once again became a wild expanse and very few who have attempted to cross it survive. Rumors abound that the sands are moving once again as tales of snake like peoples reach the edges of The Crossroads.

Fauna & Flora

There is little that grows in E'lan. Most of its native species are reptillian in nature and things that survive well in the sands. A few springs exist creating small oases in which little plant matter clings to life.
