Schevaki Rings
"I want you to have this," Amaleiya said softly, her voice melodic and strong. Much stronger than his own had been when he told her he had to leave so soon after having just returned. Her dark hair, streaked with moonlight colored strands, shielded her face as she leaned over and retrieved something from her trousseau chest. "My mother gave it me, as her mother gave it to her... They're Schevaki. Twins. Paired forever." She reached for his hand but Garek shied away, "Ama, I don't—You know what kind of work they have me do, I don't-I don't want it to be lost." Per usual, she refused to relent. Ama pulled at his hand, bent and kissed each knuckle until Garek sighed, brokenly but happy, and unclenched his fist. "You worry far too much, my love." She said with a smile, confident and shy all at once. Her yellow-grey eyes sparkled as she slid the ring onto his finger. He smiled too, remembering when he'd done the same with his mother's betrothal band. "It matches, you see?" And he did. The ring on his finger was slightly larger than the one she wore, but it was the same, nonetheless. The blood-red stone was identical on both bands; same size, same shape, same sheen. Eight stones, four on each band, were cut and inlaid in the same manner, and when he twisted it around his finger, Garek could see minute runes sketched into the orichalcum band. It looked like it cost a fortune to produce. "When you think of me, run your thumb across the center stone thrice and mine will react in turn." Ama said softly, glancing up at him with fondness in her eyes. "React?" Garek asked dumbly, not entirely sure what she meant, as he was too busy staring into her eyes. Ama laughed and ran her thumb across the ring that she always wore on her pointer. Thrice she thumbed over it, and thrice she glanced at him rather shyly. He didn't notice the rings were glowing, not until she spoke and put her hand in front of his eyes. She scrunched up her nose and kissed him, "Pay attention," Ama chided jokingly, but Garek enveloped her in a hug, his face finding the comfort and vulnerability of the crook of her neck while his hand sought the swell of her belly. "I don't want to leave." Garek whispered. "But you must, I know." Ama replied, wrapping her arms around him and squeezing tight.
Schevaki Rings
Also known as Paired Rings or Lovers Rings are extremely rare and extremely expensive to make. The knowledge of how to produce Schevaki rings was brought to Ykglenda in the Age of Man, when ████████████ from Moirgera came to the planet for the first time, intent on mapping out where all of humanity had dispersed to. Schevaki rings are usually passed on as heirlooms, usually from mother to daughter, and are almost always found as a pair. For without its twin, the ring is simply ornamental.
