Merchants' Council

The governing body of Merchant's Plain is the Merchants' Council, which comprises seven different Lords that sit in council and make decisions with regards to the different industries. The members of the council and their positions are:
Bruno Köhler - Lord of the Sea
Erwin Blumberg - Lord of the Barter
Eckbert Bauer - Lord of Coin
Adelhard Hattendorf - Lord of Smiths
Reinhild Schöler - Lord of Textile
Wighard Edelmann - Lord of Food
Everard Böhm - Lord of Tax
This division of responsibility is one that is an extremely loose, which leads to much arguing and under the table dealings between the different lords of the council each trying to gain more and more power in their position. Members of the council are chosen by a vote of the entire Merchants Guild. These elections are filled with every form of corruption and underhanded dealing as is possible. The positions on the council are for life, though there hasn't ever been a member to serve until they pass of natural causes. Most either disappear or end up being imprisoned for corruption.   The current senior most member is Adelhard Hattendorf, the Lord of Smiths. He has been in his position for over four decades.   The Merchants' Council puts on aires of power and wealth with everything that they do. From the ornate chambers that are their audience chambers to the large extravagant balls and parties that they throw for the powerful and rich. Everything is polished and appears on the outside as a paragon example of a democratically run city. On the outside at least...
