The Midoclorians

They influence things from the great to the small. Tiny things influence the greater whole. From the Knights of Mead to the mighty Kings of the North they are hard at work even today.   Though they have stepped out of the forefront they still work to maintain balance in the world.   Tiny things that brew alcohol affect the Knights, just a little bit differently each time. Wars were started through slight dihestation issues. Perhaps causing one leader to vomit and insult another hampers diplomatic attempts.   Deceptive means so small that even the strongest of magic is unable to ascertain how this group works.   Many of the mistakes prominent mages rabidly debate their existence. Some ancient tracts make mention of their existence but whether these are real or merely the deranged ramblings of the author both seem equally to be true.   The current world thinkers on this group have not mentioned their existence but neither have they verified their existence.   Perhaps some day there will be more knowledge of this group will come to light but the surviving order House of Mouse seems to be happy with the current state of affairs.   The House has built grand castles all around the world to maintain their power over these ancient tomes and though there are still the original tomes they seek to drown them out with new ones.   These tomes of power and influence infiltrate every being in the world, crossing over cultures and being the most recognized icon over all others.   Some of the tomes they keep carry great secrets that can cause the rise and fall of empires. These are the ancient tomes whose exact contents they restrict in a Great Vault, only allowing a select few to view a single page once every 10 years. Even this small bit of knowledge is enough to fuel and alter world events.   They release modified content but still they are directly tied to the Creator, they lack the magical spark of the originals. Pedestrian mages still learn a few good tricks from these but they lack the world shattering powers of the originals.   All this come to a head where nobody really knows who has what power. Does it come from those who currently are in power? From the ancient world tomes themselves? From the original writers? Or the first bards to have spread the words of power?   Many will self proclaim that power but are we required to listen?
