Peculiar

Peculiars are found in almost every world and the only aspects that seperates them from ordinary humans is that they have a peculiarity. That could be almost everything. The best known peculiarities are: Ymbryne, Pyrokinesis and Super-Strength. The Peculiarities are usually noticed in puberty and have often led to burnings at the stake, because their peculiarities were seen as witchcraft, especially in Wales, England, Puritania and Meritiana. Besides Persecution by Normals (Coerlfolk) , Hollowgasts and Whights have been the greatest danger to Peculiars in history. Their origin is suspected in an failed experiment by jack "Caul" Bentham, who was trying to eliminate aging from Peculiars. The experiment went wrong and created, to both Normals and Peculiars, invisible Monsters. They feed upon Peculiar souls. After they have eaten enough souls, they become Whights. Now they are again visible to everybody in an regular human appearance, except their eyes seem to be blind. Hollowgasts are only visible while eating, or to Peculiars with the ability of hollow manipulation. These Peculiars don't only see hollows, they can also control them. The only Person to ever control several a a time is Jakob Portman. Most Peculiars live in time loops, but as the number of Hollowgasts has shrunk down enough for them not being a danger to Peculiars anymore, there are more Peculiars Living in the world outside of loops. The representatives of the Council of Peculiars in The Knot under the supervision of the United Kingdom and The Neans are Lilo, Alma LeFay Peregrine, Emma Bloom, Jakob Portman and Horace Somnusson. The Council has the ability of making suggestions to the Parliaments in order to protect Peculiars in and out of loops.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Depends on the Peculiarity itself. Ymbrynes tend to have an oddly and wide shaped back, Backmouths have a mouth in the back of their heads and Dead-risers usually have the worst, depressed posture you will ever notice on a person.

Biological Traits

The lifespan of a Peculiar is naturally the same of a Normal, but as there is no physical aging in Loops, until they it is left for a longer period of time, most peculiars reach an age of 150-300.

Genetics and Reproduction

Peculiarities are inheritable, but usually have a 30-60% of actuallyevidentially inherited by the offspring child. The peculiar-gene itself can last five to six generations without taking effect. Children of Peculiars on both parental sides can have several peculiraties, which can lead to problems, such as two different Elemental-Peculiarities united (e.g. Pyrokinesis and Cryokinesis). An example for an perfectly fine Mixed-Peculiar is Lilo, who is an Ymbryne, Elemental and Librarian.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Peculiarity usually starts showing up in the ages inbetween nine and fourteen. It settles in the years afterwards.

Ecology and Habitats

As most of the Peculiars live in Loops, created by Ymbrynes, most Peculiars indentify Loops as their natural habitat. Leaving time-loops can be dangerous to Peculiars who spend most of their lives in time loops, as they age really quickly outside of Loops, until they have reached their "natural" age outside of the time- loop. A life outside of Loops is very well possible and is considered more and more attractive to the "new" generations, other prefer a life inside a time-loop to escape the aging process.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The life in time-loops is strictly ordered. The Ymbryne is the headmistress of every facility and chooses one or two children who she thinks of as most reliable and suitable to be her deputies. The Ymbrynes are organised in the Council of Ymbrynes, which is in contact with the Council of Peculiars and this way also the political officals in parliaments. The few Peculiar villages usually still have an Ymbryne or a well-known and reliable founder. The Founder and his supportive staff are in regular contact with the Council of Peculiars.

Domestication

Peculiar villages and time loops are the prefered positions of Peculiars. Nomadic Peculiars have been a very common observation in the history as it was impossible for Peculiars without Ymbryne to settle, because of Persecution. As this factor is ceased in most countries, there a less to almost peculiar nomades

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Peculiars Ireland and Scotland usually offered services that fitted their peculiarity in the past, like Pyrokinetics working as migratory lighter. With the progess of technology most of the offered services have now a rather small demand.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Due to Persecution in most other countries in the past, most Peculiars fled to Scotland and Ireland, where the percentage of Peculiars in the population is still the highest. Peculiars in Meritiana are expected to be almost extinct, as they are still under death sentence due to witchcraft in the Meritian law.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Peculiars are usually very identifying with their time loop or village and talk of their Ymbrynes or Founders in glowing terms.

History

Until the Pre-era most Peculiars were worshipped as gods, but in the Pre-era and therefore the growing importance of states and moral, they soon were banned from social life altogether, as they were either seen as odd or worse, seen as witches and villians in most countries. Scotland and Ireland who were independent for a longer time kept their open mind to Peculiarty, even when they were invaded by the Meritians in 200 Pre. This way, Scotland and Ireland became a safen haven for many Peculiars. In the upcoming era, the UK, ruled by a Peculiar, inherited this role as a whole. The Neans and their territory also neverminded the presence of Peculiars within their ranks, unless it had a negative impact on their work, but as the border controls to their territory were sharp, most Peculiars did not even have the chance of entering the territory. After their Liberation in 78 Post Itenia, never published a Statement on Peculiars, but tolerated the killing and persecution by ist citizens. The time inbetween 1433 and 1456 was a relief for the Puritian Peculiars, but as soon as the United Kingdom gave the territory back to the Puritians, the situation changed dramatically, as they were put into cotrolled locations, in order to protect the other citizens. The law concerning Peculiars was changed as late as 1793. In the same year, Itenia also illegalized the persecution of Peculiars within its borders. Puritiana has still a very careless handling when it comes to crimes done to peculiars. In Meritiana being peculiar is still a deadly danger

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Peculiars and Normals usually don't come across each other too often, and especially Peculiars enjoy that. If they do, because they e.g. live with them on a day-to-day life it often does not interefere with anything either of them does.
Genetic Ancestor(s)
Scientific Name
Homo crypto sapiens / Homo sapiens syndrigasti
Lifespan
Naturally: 80 years, In Loops: 150-300
Conservation Status
The Council of Peculiars, who is in close contact to the Council of Ymbrynes in The Knot discusses which measurements can be taken in order to keep Peculiars safe and sound from Normals, Hollowgasts. Their annual report about the situation of Peculiars in the countries of the Knot and the rather irregular lists of demads is presented to the Ministry of Aliens in the UK and the Comission of Peculiarity in Francia and Puritiana.
