Welding

A Welding is the Jacobian equivalent of a wedding. It formalizes the joining of a man and a woman before their community. Once it is complete the couple begin their life as a lawful family unit.

Execution

The ceremony has a few steps. The audience is divided into three groups. 2 of the groups are members who belong to the family of one of the individual. Guests who are related to both, or have no blood relation to either, are placed in the middle. The man comes down his side and the woman hers.   At this point, if there are any within the audience who objects to the union may challenge either one by invoking Chee-Atal . There is a special rule that comes with the @Chee-Atals at a Forging, that being the challenged's spouse to be can accept on their behalf.   After the challenges are complete, they are then undressed until they are wearing nothing but their Gamus-Deyan (garment of trust), which is barely more than a loin-cloth. This symbolizes the absolute trust that the couple has in each other and the honour of their audience. Each is given a Cheeoq-Sen (Sword of training) that has mildly sharpened edges before proceeding with a kata that they designed. It is meant to display their skill with a blade to those who have come to view and portray their trust in one another's abilities.   Once the kata is complete, the pair moves on to the Braiding ceremony, where the woman braids the man's beard and he her hair.   The final step is the shield welding; each of them brings forward half a shield that they then forge-weld together. After the shield is formed it is presented to the audience and the ceremony is completed.
