Venus

Venus is the second planet from the Sun, orbiting it every 224.7 Earth days. It has the longest rotation period of any planet in the Solar System and rotates in the opposite direction to most other planets. It does not have any natural satellites.
Shortly after The Deep Freeze, The United Nations of the Earth and Moon established two orbital mining platforms (or Cloud Cities) in low-atmospheric orbit around the planet. These cities were high enough that the severe pressure of the atmosphere would not hinder their physiology drastically. Large mining "arms" hang off the cities and drape down to the planet surface, where miners could take short shifts mining Venesium. The two mining platforms were the Lewis Orbital Mining Platform and the Clark Orbital Mining Platform.
Less than ten years into the facilities' operation, and following drastic casualties amongst miners, UNEM began evacuation attempts. Their efforts proved to be more detrimental than beneficial, and controversially, UNEM discontinued evacuations, stranding anyone who was left on the planet.

Venus is the home of the Hoshasen people.
