Hoshasen

The Hoshasen are natives of Venus, and descendants of the original UNEM miners who were abandoned on the planet after evacuation attempts proved catastrophic. The Hoshasen are no longer present on the "cloud cities." It is believed they have adapted to the high pressure and toxic atmosphere of the planet, and now live somewhere on or near the planet's surface.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

Hoshasen (a language derivative of several middle eastern languages)

Culture and cultural heritage

Non-native Venetians often refer to the Hoshasen as "Sirens" due to myths of their psychic and supernatural abilities.

Shared customary codes and values

The Hoshasen people value Venesium as the true gift of Moulay, and often adorn themselves with fragments of the radioactive element in decorative fashion.

Average technological level

The Hoshasen have not advanced technologically, but have maintained a level of technological aptitude necessary to keep oxygen, food and water processors (taken from the Cloud Cities) functioning.

Common Customs, traditions and rituals

The Hoshasen worship Moulay, the Spirit of Venus.

Birth & Baptismal Rites

Shortly after birth, newborns are taken on a trek to the Torii-Moulay. If they survive the journey, they are then granted a name by Moulay.

Coming of Age Rites

At age 12, the young Hoshasen must go on their Hajra, or coming of age quest. They must journey to the Torii-Moulay, this time alone. The young pilgrim may or may not be granted the gift of Moulay. If the young one returns alive, (s)he is marked as an adult among the tribe.

Ideals

Courtship Ideals

The Hoshasen are encouraged to reproduce with any tribe members who are physically fit and capable of bearing fruitful offspring, due to the high mortality rate that comes with living on the planet surface.
