Spring Crab Medal

Table of Contents
Gukezu Nobluvo is a medal given to people who have advanced the Rilsu civilization in a remarkable way.

History

Since 10 VZR, the medal has been given out to numerous individuals whose work had a significant impact on the quality of life on Ranul. The first person to receive this award was Te-Sakal, the driving force behind the research that brought back agriculture after the The Final War.   The process of nominating and voting on candidates for this award was formalized four months later. Famous bearers of the medal include Ru-Zuniv who laid the philosophical foundation for the Rilsu society, or Ka-Nelim who lead the expedition which retrieved the first Guardian of Identity device.

Execution

Evaluation of Candidates

Anyone is free to reach out to their local Council and nominate anybody (except for themselves) for public recognition. Such a nomination needs to clearly identify the person in question and explain why they deserve to receive this award.   The nominations are passed on towards the higher levels until they arrive at the global Council. When eight nominations have accumulated for a single person, the decision process begins. The members of all Councils are informed about who was nominated and for what reasons. Each member then has one month to do their own research about this person's worthiness, after which they cast their vote to approve or disapprove of the candidate.

Award Ceremony

Once the council has decided to give the medal to a candidate, the award ceremony is scheduled. As a general rule, it takes place during the following Fresh Food Feast near the workplace of the person who is to receive the medal.

Components and tools

The medal itself is made of iron and coated in silver. It shows an artistic interpretation of the Spring Crab constellation which stands for the new beginning after the Final War. Between the crab and the group of stars it appears to chase, engraved letters show the name of the medal bearer and the date of receiving it.   It is suspended from an orange ribbon of a sturdy silk fabric. During the award ceremony, it is worn around the neck, whereas afterwards, it is commonly hung on a wall in the bearer's home.

Participants

The local Council appoints one spokesperson who will give the award speech, explaining what makes the candidate worthy of receiving the award. After this speech, the candidate is asked to step forward to accept the medal which the spokesperson hangs around their neck.   The bearer of the medal then gives a speech of their own. For example, they may tell the story behind their achievement, acknowledge their collaborators and supporters or talk about future plans.

I love this tradition! Such a nice way to recognise individuals who are deserving. I like that it takes eight nominations for them to be considered.

Thank you very much! ^^ I'm glad that you like the bit with the eight nominations, I wasn't entirely sure if this number made sense. I didn't want the Council to act on any random suggestion, but I also wanted to keep the threshold low enough so that worthy individuals could easily get the Council's attention.
