The Isles of Dartil

Near the western shore of the cold, windswept ocean lays a cluster of dark islands known as The Isles of Dartil. These modest patches of land would be difficult to notice during most of the year due to rough weather on the Noctic ocean and extensive periods of thick fog. While it is true that this harsh land seems inhospitable to those looking to settle, centuries ago several groups of people made their way here and became the first to call Dartil their home.   Although the landscape isn't likely to take anyone's breath away, there is an air of mystery to this place. Traces of long forgotten civilizations show up from time to time and relative isolation of these isles only obscure their histories even more. Decrepit ruins dot the landscape and cause a sense of unease in the locals. Many see them as warnings of lessons still not learned and consequences of not learning them. There are many missing pieces in the history of Dartil's people. Little is known of the few major falls of civilizations that used to span this area....   An eerie atmosphere seems to stick to these lands, cropping up occasionally and holding its grip much like the fog that creeps up from the north of the ocean. With this atmosphere comes also a strange presence that can be felt as if it radiates from the ground itself. It is almost as if it's looking to warn those that tread upon it of atrocities that took place at a time long past. Some say that when the thick fog descends over the isles of Dartil, by the time one walks 20 miles on the dark roads they will surely become mad.   Even though the landscape seems steeped in a somber mood, not all is dark and gloomy in Dartil. There still remain areas that seem out of place when compared to their surroundings. Areas of untarnished beauty and potential that give pleasant promises. Promises of redemption, promises of hope and even... Promises of second chances...
