Mining Wands

Useful for gathering materials, for tunneling, and for digging foundations.

Components

  • Destructive implement
The method of breaking down materials determines what the wand can collect.
    Examples
    • None
Collects loose items that fit in its intake.
    • Cutting
Cleanly cuts items into pieces small enough to collect.
    • Crushing
Scraps collected items for sorting into component materials.
  • Intake
The size of the wand's spatial slipstream intake affects how much material it can collect at once. The shape affects the structural qualities of the holes it leaves.
    Examples
    • Spherical
Collects smooth chunks of material without regard for structural integrity.
    • Voxel
Collects perfectly square blocks, measured along a universally consistent grid defined within the wand's programming. Thus the blocks are perfectly uniform in size and can be put back together exactly as they were before deconstruction.
  • Filter
Mechanisms within the wand can selectively destroy or leave untouched preset objects and can sort materials before storing them in the user's linked storage space.
    Examples
    • None
      Materials aren't sorted.
    • Safety filter
Detects material properties to only affect designated materials, and/or detects life signs to avoid harming living things.
    • Trash
Designated materials go to an irretrievable garbage space.
  • Power source
Wands are not perpetual motion devices. They need a power source.
    Examples
    • Manual
      You are the power source.
    • Electric
      Battery power.
    • Dissonance
The wand generates its own power from the dissonance between clashing realities. Everywhere in the interstice has some amount of ambient dissonance, but high-powered applications require dangerous levels.
  • Modifiers
    Any other components.
    Examples
    • Gravitizing
Automatically shapes gravity to prevent cave-ins.
    • Extractor
Any machine which processes materials can be fitted into the wand to process all compatible incoming materials.
    • Weaponized
      Increases harm to living things.

Sample mining wands

Portal mote on a stick
By tickling a portal mote you can induce it to bite with its space-warping jaws. A primitive- yet effective- means of digging through dense substances.
  • Destructive implement: Biting, live portal mote
  • Intake: Spherical (20cm diameter) portal mote mouth
  • Filter: None
  • Power source: Small critter feed

"Iron pickaxe"
A hassle-free mining tool.
  • Destructive implement: Cutting
  • Intake: Voxel (1mx1mx1m)
  • Filter: None
  • Power source: Manual
  • Modifier: Gravitizing

Steal Beam
For as long as wands have existed they've been misused for theft. Common defenses include reinforcing walls with spatial discontinuities, which protects against many other things as well, and configuring local reality stabilizers to dampen spatial manipulation effects.
  • Destructive implement: None
  • Intake: Beam (1mx1m, range: 200m)
  • Filter: Safety filter (collect only designated nonliving items)
  • Power source: Dissonance
  • Modifier: Silent

Gravity Cannon
A state-of-the-art weapon that harvests valuable materials from its victims. The gravity cannon bends space to crush matter with its own gravitational force. With enough power it can overwhelm almost anything, including other spatial manipulation effects. Only divine immovable objects stop it completely.
  • Destructive implement: Crushing gravity
  • Intake: Beam (area: scalable, range: unlimited)
  • Filter: Trash (collect all but dispose of trash-designated substances)
  • Power source: Electric
  • Modifier: Weaponized - Gravity Cannon: Destructive force scales with power input without practical limit. Spatial effects don't stop the beam but do reduce damage in proportion to the effect's power input.
