Creation Myth

Created by Peekajinx
** This is a myth I wrote some time ago and have not decided yet how I want to incorporate it into my universe or which species it will be associated with, but I wanted to at least put it here so it would never be lost. **

Summary

Before there was anything, there was It. It was everything and nothing all in one. It began to grow lonely, so It gave birth to Time to keep It company. It had a grand Time, until it became apparent that Time never changed, and continued to move forward, waiting for no one, not even It when It needed to stop and rest. It got bored again and gave birth to Darkness, but since Darkness was so hard to see, It also gave birth to Light. It was so fond of Light, that Darkness became jealous and began to hate Light, so whenever Light entered, Darkness would leave.   It decided that It needed someplace to play with Light and Darkness, so It gave birth to Universe. It was so tired from creating Universe, that It stopped to rest on a world. As It napped, It dreamed of everything that was yet to be. While It dreamed, Time passed by. Time tried to wake It, but It would not wake. Darkness then tried to wake It, but was also unsuccessful. So Light came to wake It, and as Light’s rays shone on It, It woke from Its dream, and Its dream escaped from It and showered the world It was resting on with everything that was yet to be.   First the world was covered in water, filling the valleys of the world that were created when It slept on it to create the oceans. Then plants sprung up from the dry land followed by all the living creatures. It was so fascinated by everything that had come to be, but decided that something was still missing. As It pondered what was missing, It sneezed, and from Its sneeze came the first people to walk the world. Satisfied that the world was as it should be, It set Light and Darkness to look after this new life-filled world. So as Light would watch one side, Darkness watched the other.   It loved this new world and would visit it often, until It noticed that the populations were dwindling as time passed and the animals and people would get old and die. It became sad that Its world might die and It wouldn’t have anything to visit anymore, so It cried. Its tears fell on the world in a torrential rain that flooded the land. It, in its sadness saw the destruction Its tears was causing and stopped. Now the populations of all the animals and people were at the lowest they had ever been since so many were lost in Its tears.   Time passed by again and saw Its sadness. Time didn’t want It to be sad anymore so Time reached down on to the world and gifted the animals and people with the ability to have children of their own. Soon, the populations started growing again and the world was once again full of life. It was very happy and the warmth of Its happiness dried Is tears away and the land rose once more from the oceans.   Time moved on again and It watched over Its world. The people on the world were very thankful to It and Time for the life they were given and lived in peace amongst each other and the other animals. Light and Darkness still made their rounds around the world, watching over it as It had asked them to. Before long, Darkness noticed that whenever Light would pass over, the people and animals would rise and greet Light and were very joyous, but when Darkness would pass over, people would go back into their dwellings and ignore Darkness. Some people were even afraid of Darkness. Darkness grew angry and jealous once again and when neither It nor Light were watching, Darkness reached down and touched some of the people of the world.   Darkness’s touch transferred his feelings to the people and the people he touched began to fight amongst each other and with the other people. This eventually led to the separation of all the nations as some people grouped together, and there would be tension and war between the nations. As people became more and more self-obsessed, they forgot about It and all that It had given them.   It was angry with Darkness for causing such a disruption on Its world and punished Darkness by placing the moon and stars to watch over Darkness’s side of the world with him. The stars and moon were a part of Light and could watch to make sure that Darkness did not do anything more to the world.   It was still very sad that the world had forgotten It so It decided to sleep and dreamed of the day the world would remember It once again.

Really cute work about the darkness and the light that is so common in so many creation myths. I like it a lot, but right now it looks like it just talks about the water and the rains that said being created. My (other) tag being Flameshrike, I wonder about how the humans discovered fire? Great job overall :)

I liked the jealousy aspect between light and dark and how you used it to explain the break into nations. I did find the use of it a little confusing at times (mostly toward the end), but the idea of their godlike entity having no name would be fun to play with in the creation of a society. In all, I enjoyed your myth.
