Employment

Casta Sose, a Southern Walkingfolk, gained early notoriety for her tactical skills in the Bean War. In 53 ak, at the age of 19, when the Bean viciously attacked the southern coastlines and killed the chain of command above the vessel where she served, Casta took command and led the remaining sailors to victory. She then landed the ship on the Bluffs and, instructing her crew to dismantle it for firewood, used the bones of the damaged ship as bonfires to push back Bean forces, saving a portion of the railway from destruction.   After the eruption of the Calderas in 66 ak, Casta first assisted in initial aid efforts to the Ni'kashiga. In 67 ak, Casta joined the Ni'kashiga first as Hetchling and (almost immediately) in the oath of a Ranger, wishing to help with restoration and aid efforts. She was one of the first to notice the increased hostility of the Bean and their civilian withdrawal for what it was - desperation over lost habitable environment - and was an early advocate of a concept that would later become The Green reservation.   In 74 ak, Casta Sose was chosen as Expedition Leader for the first formal mapping of Ni'kashiga Caravan trade routes through The Empty Quarter. It was a massive honor to both the Hetchling community (and is believed to have shown Ni'kashiga dedication to their relationships with the Southern Walkingfolk, leading to later treaties) but the position was a lonely one: her Ni'kashiga expedition team, particular the Wamonthinkeh members, initially resented her advancement. The team struggled for cohesiveness until Casta's leadership in a sandstorm proved her skill and saved their lives, as well as the lives and goods of the caravan they were scouting for.   By the return of the expedition team, it was said that her team was run as efficiently as the watch she carried with her on the journey, whose clock gears Sose maintained tirelessly against the onslaught of desert sands. Unlike many of the early mixed-race teams sent into the wilderness, Casta's team lost no members nor had any major injuries despite their extended time spent in one of the most dangerous areas of the Greater Inbound Lands.

Accomplishments & Achievements

Her Ranger service name, Soce, means "Smoke," and is in reference to her use of fire in battles against the Bean, and for the coat of soot from her service after the Calderas eruptions.
In 174 ak, to celebrate the Expedition one hundred years prior, the "Salt Flat" Dollar was released in Ochi O'hka, commemorating the leadership of Casta Sose. Above is an artist's early sketch of the dollar layout, which included the gears of her clocks, the twining of desert grasses, and the small desert birds she was said to favor as pets.
Artifacts honoring Casta Sose may be found in The Salt Flat Dollar, first revealed in Day 81 of #the100dayproject, exploring the #inboundlands over the course of #100daysofvagary.
