Nearly a thousand years ago the world was ravaged by the cataclysm that shattered the sun and broke the very Gates of Death. Now the oceans are vast expanses of inky blackness, patrolled by leviathans so massive as to defy comprehension; and cities are bastions against a legion of spirits roaming the deathlands.
Duskwall is one such city, situated on the northern end of the Imperial Seat, Akoros. Here the lightning barriers crackle and hum, keeping away the horrors of the deathlands. Foolhardy sailors depart from Duskwall for the leviathan hunting grounds further north and scoundrels plot and strike in the shadows that envelope the town.
