Master's Mark Item in The Hylian Fantasy | World Anvil

Master's Mark

A simple accessory denoting that a tradesman has completed their apprenticeship under a master. This mark, normally decorative, small item, bears the related guilds registered symbol of the master.   The style of these marks vary between cultures, but most are simple and include raised or recessed markings that allow for imprints to be copied onto deeds or other documents for records of who ones instructor was. This record of Mastery is often confused with a Maker's Mark, which the craftsman applies to their work in order to record that they constructed or made it.

Display of the Mark

Many masters of their craft will normally obtain a simple Wallet for their apprentice, which will be tied off with a Guild Mark and their personal Master's Mark usually made from the materials most often worked with, for example a piece of carved stone for a mason, or a wooden chit for a carpenter. As such, the mark is not normally displayed, but can be provided upon request.

Significance

Acts as a license to perform work for pay, as opposed to the pay for a job being given to ones master.
