Fafnir Character in The Hummelverse | World Anvil

Fafnir

An underling from one of the Legion divisions - Fafnir is a Flammpanzer Hetzer who was drafted into Unit 37-42 straight from the factory. He has been consistently used as cannon fodder but somehow made it out alive every time so far.   While only vaguely discontent with his situation at first, he starts realizing that he's part of the bad guys soon.
This epiphany and the fact that his life is treated rather carelessly, begins to make him really, really unhappy with his circumstances. Secretly, he has started considering his escape from the Legion.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

His frame was in the middle of being repainted when he was called into a raid; the factory red base coat is still half visible. Since he didn't get the chance to finish his camo job yet, he drives around with his odd paint scheme. Only the Legion insignia was quickly painted on top of it.

Physical quirks

His flamethrower's gun cover keeps falling off at inconvenient times, but he is seemingly unable or unwilling to find a solution for this issue. It's probably one of those things that bothers you, but not enough to seriously do anything about it.

Social Aptitude

A mistrustful little tank who gets defensive quickly. Very resilient and stubborn. He has no concept of resolving interpersonal conflicts in a peaceful way, a behaviour that was most likely shaped by his unstable and hostile surroundings.

A special kind of Tank
Like many tanks in Inferno's units, Fafnir is a flame tank. His regular cannon has been replaced with a flamethrower, disguised to look like a 7.5 Pak.   Other models mount the flamethrower additionally to their main armament, but tanks like Fafnir are rather defenseless against other tanks when engaged from a range beyond their weapon's small reach. Their commanders know this, and tend to only use them in close-range fights or to set the battlefield on fire.   Fafnir in particular - but not only him - has found himself in the crossfire despite this many times; either by oversight or intentionally as a "distraction". It's usually pure luck that gets him out of these predicaments.
