Humans: The Grass Folk
Our cities were once built for safety to protect our loved ones, our children. We built them not for progress but for necessity because we had no other choice. But soon mud houses became brick and brick became stone and before long we forgot what we started to build for. We built then out of wanting, out of greed, tools of destruction forged from the metals of the earth and not soon after we had created war.
Steadfast and Pig-Headed
Humans, along with the dwarves, were among the first to settle upon Baile. It is thought that whatever catastrophic event caused the "Falling of 10 Stars" also caused the Humans to flee their homelands and migrate to Baile. When they settled their bare feet upon the lush grasses and fields of the Heartlands they knew they had found their home. The Humans of this world are stubborn not just mentally but in spirit as well. Once they have found where they wish to root they will firmly plant themselves upon the ground and only move when they decide to or are forced from their homes by force. They are loyal to a fault and believe that if given to being kind that some great kindness will be delivered upon them in turn. That is perhaps their greatest weakness, that they believe in their gods and in their fellow man but know deep within their hearts that their neighbor can be as twisted as any chaotic demon. The Nature of Man
Adaptability and perseverance, not to say the other Kindred lack these virtues but the humans make it their own. They will stand their ground regardless of what or who comes their way for the ones they love and care for. You throw them into a blazing desert and they find how to survive, you leave them in the freezing north and they will create fire from a twig. They are simple folk but it is what allows them to survive wherever they find themselves. However, they are prone to falling into a fool's folly and they will die for a cause that will not matter in a few winters simply because they wholly believe in it. They are a strange bunch but they have made a name for themselves in a world that would leave most crushed and defeated. What Do You Mean Their Ears Don't Point?
The Grass Folk over the course of the last thousand years have spread far and wide over Baile. Quite something for simple plains folk but they have remained relatively the same in terms of differences in their nature. Humans like all the Kindred vary quite differently from one ethnic group to the other. Some have dark wiry hair and deep brown eyes while others have lightly tanned skin and firey auburn curls. Humans are varied and can have any combination of features depending on their parentage but the telltale signs of a human are their rounded non-pointed ears and knack for strange and outlandish cultural habitsSuperstitous and Gullible
Humans more so than most races can be annoyingly frightened by boogeymen and witches. The things that make children stay tucked neatly in their beds a night can also stop a grown knight in plate from stepping on a crack for fear it might shatter her poor mother's back. A human might shake their foot three times after stepping into a puddle or make sure to leave bread for the birds lest Malfurion the Watchful steal their souls next time they walk into a forest. They are so sure that these small rituals they perform keep them safe and secure that trying to convince them otherwise is fruitless and might as well be heresy spoken directly into the ear of the God-Empress herself.Expansion of Man
It was some hundred or so years after the great migration and the settling of Baile that the Humans began to truly lay down their roots and expand slowly south. They built stone cities and towns for protection against element and beast and they forged weapons to protect themselves as the forces chaos while not formed into a full incursion still loomed over the horizon. Instead of expanding north or east where they say other strange folks erect large golden cities or carve kingdoms into large mountains they went towards the coast where rain was heavy but the land was bountiful. They quickly learned what was needed to properly tend and cherish the land a discovery that was awarded to a strange and legendary figure known as Elric Greeneye. They built great coastal cities that could stand against the rain and could encourage sustainable agriculture. But this age of prosperity did not last because while the Humans had expanded so did the other Kindred of Svenna and soon borders clashed and blood was spilled. The Age of Hatred
The first skirmishes to break out among the Kindred we're quick yet brutal. Battles along the borders of neighboring kingdoms were fought hard but they quickly evolved into a full-on war across entire stretches of land. Fields were burned and cities were sacked, one of the most horrific moments of this event that would be called the "100 years of Bloodshed" was the slaughter of Kingsgard. The Elves came quickly from the south and with their superior cavalry and intelligent timing as the main forces of the Human kingdoms we're sent to repel the Dwarvish forces descending from the north. Kingsgard was burned almost to the ground and perhaps only 80% of the population remained. It was during this moment that the way the war was fought, sparring combatants and leaving the defenseless to flee became a thing of the past, brutality became the new norm and blood would flow like tides upon a beach.
The Other Children's Thoughts
What Do They Think?- Dwarves: They are loyal and they are funny, though you have to wonder sometimes how they deal with being so soft and squishy. I played bloody with one of them once and the poor fool's knuckles almost shattered.
- Elves: Unconquerable and as vicious as the sands in the south and the howling snow in the north. They are impressive but their friendly smiles often hold ugly secrets.
- Halflings: Ai, they're an interesting bunch they eat good and drink well, though some of em' are more likely to steal your gold while ya' drunk then help ya' up.
- Gnomes: They're quicker than most big folk, not quicker than the elves mind you but they are quick and they love their homes which is something you have to appreciate. Though they are scared of anything that goes bump in the night.
A Strange thing about Humans
While most if not all of the Kindred can breed with one another they do so with varying degrees of sex such as elves and halflings almost never being able to produce offspring and dwarves and gnomes only having a 50% of giving birth to healthy children. However, humans are able to reproduce with any and all races including the chaos born Ogres making them often the preferred race for surrogates. Many half breed or mutts have human in their blood.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
