Nara'Altun of Covenant Rock
Uelas-Noraz Nara'Altun Rusu'Argaren Of Covenant Rock (a.k.a. Nara)
Nara'Altun of Covenant Rock is both leader and witch of the unique clan of Covenant Rock. Much like her clan mixes both the properties of legacy clans and seed clans, she occupies the combined role of leader and witch. Nara'Altun officiates Seedings and directs military strategy and her position is unchallenged in her clan.
Nara'Altun is the only witch to have failed the awakening ritual of The Endseers, which was supposed to give her access to all of the orcish collective unconscious. However, she still went on to become her clan's Witch and to gain gradual access to the collective unconscious of the orcs by communing with her familiar.
Her clan is solely dedicated to passing down her self-taught witchcraft and alchemy.
A brilliant negotiator, she attempts to solve conflict through diplomacy rather than indulge in the violent traditions of orcs. Less of a fighter as she is an endurer, she is nonetheless a threat in combat with her knowledge of witchcraft. Though not her first option, she would rather engage first, if she senses combat to be inevitable.
It was through her brilliant negotiation skills that she gained the appeal of other clans, entering alliances with a few and being on agreeable terms many others.
History
Nara'Altun bloomed the only survivor of a destroyed Breeding Mound on the Eastern borders of The Hold of Belkzen. She was instantly drawn to the Endseers and made the trek to the Brimstone Haruspex on her own with very little help but the passing herds of Daeodon to hide amongst and not attract unwanted aention. When she arrived to the Brimstone Haruspex, she was taken by the Endseers to be awakened to the orcish collective unconscious. However, the ritual failed and she remained with limited access to it. Fearing bad omen, the Endseers cast her out as a reject, threatening curses should she return. Nara'Altun, 16 at this point, never did return. Instead she became a wandering witch for some time, the only one known of so far. At 20, she followed another pull of her mind until met with a clan which had lost its witch. Using both her slowly growing connection to the orcish unconscious and her skills for negotiation honed in travels, she became the clan's witch. And 6 months later, she had defeated the clan's leader, Baragken, in duel to take her place. It was as both witch and leader that she led her clan to Covenant Rock, following yet another instinct of hers. In the decade that followed, she worked to establish her unique clan at a level of influence rivaling that of the Endseers and the Knowing Orcs of Urgir. Using her wit and skills acquired on her travels, she became the third most influential figure of the Hold.Mental characteristics
Accomplishments & Achievements
Failures & Embarrassments
Nara'Altun only knows what she has experienced, as such she had many failures on the path to each of her achievements.
Her first failure is to have failed the Endseers' initiation. A failure which still leaves her stricken with doubt concerning her witchcraft even despite vocally disavowing the Endseers and their claim to authority on orcish memory.
She failed multiple times in preventing schisms insider her clan once she became the leader, which in turn led to a depleted population when they arrived upon Covenant Rock. And when the dragon attacked the trespassers on their territory, she failed to protect many of her clans and only got the dragons to listen to her after they had further diminished the clan by a quarter of its size. One of the orcs she failed to protect was her one and only partner, Argaren.
Mental Trauma
Failure to Awaken
Her failure to Awaken and the superstitions of the Endseers form much of Nara'Altun's character even to this day. She constantly doubts her understanding of witchcraft and arduously studies and meditates in order to expand her access to the collective unconscious. In times of stress, she will retire herself in her urgus and meditates. It was during such a meditation that the dragons of Raschka-Tor attacked the clan.Loss of Argaren
Nara'Altun lost her partner in a fight with one of the dragons of Raschka-Tor. She has not been able to mourn and in fact had to resort to using even the death of her loved one in negotiating the safety of her clan to the dragons. She blames herself for the death of her partner. And though officiating seeding rites, she refuses to take another partner or to seed herself.Social
Contacts & Relations
Raschka-Tor
Nara'Altun entered orcish history when she established her clan on Covenant Rock, on the border of the red dragon domain of Rashcka-Tor. She negotiated diplomatic relations with the dragons and managed to enter a non-agression pact. The Covenant Rock demands a fee to anyone who wants to travel into the vegetation-rich domain of Raschka-Tor. With this fee paid, the alchemists of the clan mark travelers with a scent which prevents attacks by the dragons. The exact nature of the deal is a closely guarded secret of only Nara'Altun's inner circle. The Flayed Skull and Murdered Child Clans
The Covenant Rock Clan is also close to both major legacy clans on either side of the Flood Road. The Flayed Skull clan pays regular fees to the Covenant Rock clan in order to remain protected while they inhabit the area of The Dry Skin Lake. In return, they provide beneficial trades for leather goods to Nara'Altun's clan. The Murdered Child has only recently and loosely entered a mutually beneficial trade deal with Covenant Rock. They trade salt, Black Sand and other culinary or alchemical ingredient and are provided in return with various antidotes and medicines.Family Ties
Nara'Altun has lost her one and only partner, Argaren. She has no descendants and no siblings or distant relatives. She isn't even of the same Breeding Mound as the other members of her clan.
Religious Views
Nara'Altun encourages faith in all deities of the orcish pantheon but she worships only Dretha. She is tolerant towards other faiths but refuses them access to her clan's individuals, asking them only to interact with her or her second in command, Rzonca.
Social Aptitude
Nara'Altun is skilled in public speaking, though not particularly outgoing. In fact, she rarely engages with others apart from administrative matters or orating. She isn't shy or unemotional, rather walled off and careful about the information she lets out.
Hobbies & Pets
She has a familiar deep crow with whom she often communes in order to expand her access to the collective unconscious of the orcs.
Speech
Nara'Altun's voice is rough and commanding. She has a remarkable vocal range which she is able to make advantage of to project different images of herself depending on who she's speaking with. She is extremely informal and purposefully seeks to find what makes her interlocutors' tick. Her tone and expression is however much easier when addressing someone of her clan.
Though versed in other languages, she speaks only in Lower Orcish. She will switch into another language when she sees the opportunity to use the shift to her advantage.
