The Lunar Harvest

An unforgiving blanket of snow falls on the ruins of Chicago. Reserves of drinking water and food freeze under the harsh cold. In their time of need, the wastelanders of Chicago look upon the first full moon of winter and hope for salvation. Their hopes were fulfilled. A shuttle seemingly launched from the moon's surface crashed into Chicago. The intense heat it made on impact melted all frozen water reserves. The wastelanders celebrate the moon's watery harvest every year. It is a time of peace, and a moment to remember, the life sustaining gift of water unites everyone in the wastelands.

History

In the year 2127, the ruins of Chicago was experiencing a horrible winter. Settlements struggled to survive as food supplies ran low, water froze, and frigid winds took lives. Snowfall had arrived earlier than anyone could expect. The wastelanders were hopeless. Yet, on the night of the first full moon of winter, a miracle happened. A shuttle fell from the sky and crashed landed at the center of Chicago. The shuttle burst into a ball of fire as it made impact. The heat it gave was so intense that frozen water supplies melted. The wastelanders of Chicago had a chance to survive. Many interpreted this event as the moon itself bestowing life onto the wastelands. A harvest of fresh drinking water. Every year since then, the wastelanders of Chicago celebrate the first full moon of winter as The Lunar Harvest.

Execution

Denizens throughout Chicago celebrate The Lunar Harvest very similarly. Lanterns are strung up to commemorate the moon's bright light. Large bonfires are made as an homage to the shuttle that crashed into the Earth all those years ago. Water is served to all wastelanders - free of charge - for this one night. Denizens will voluntarily decide to jump into the ice cold waters of Lake Michigan to celebrate the moon's gift. During this time, there is a temporary cease fire amongst all the different factions of the wasteland. It is not out of place to see a super mutant drink alongside a Brotherhood Paladin.
