Deep beneath the Chicago Mexican Consulate, the Chantli Synths have created a laboratory similar to The Institute. With synths pairing off into relationships, the want of recreating child birth began. Synth engineers are able to scan the neural pathways of two or more synths to create an amalgamation that creates a new synth. A child synth. Although The Institute questioned the morality of creating child synths, the Chantli Synths have perfected the method. A new generation of synth has been created. Fourth generation synths are created and take the appearance of a new born baby. They think, they grow, they mature, but more importantly, they age. Fourth generation synths can age up until a pre-programmed age limit. While aging, modifications and changing of some hardware because necessary. Echo is one of these synths. The first fourth generation synth. 
Echo never knew her parents were. She does not know the neural pathways that she has inherited. Not knowing who she was, she took to the wastelands. The wastelands were dangerous and brutal. However, one day she was found by The Daughters of Eve -a First Hunt group. When she was brought to Eden, she met with Mother Superior Rose. Rose knew of the synths from her time in the Brotherhood of Steel. She immediately heard Elder Maxson's warning's that the synth will be as the dangerous as the atomic bomb. However, Mother Superior Rose made Echo a part of her elite warrior squad- The Snakes of Eden. Rose was ruthless when ordered, and one day out on a mission, her team was caught in a rad storm. Echo was overcome by thoughts of violence, and in a rage, she killed her fellow Snakes. Mother Superior did not know what to do. She refused to take Echo's life, but she could no longer remain in Eden. 
Mr. Warden was called, and Echo was taken to The Trench.
