Necromechanic

The duty of a Necromechanic is surrounded by mystery. Around much of The Great Dunes, they are thought of as nothing more than a rumor or a cautionary tale against open conflict, although in the more secretive parts of society they are revered. Their main purpose is to claim the bodies of fallen soldiers that are deemed to be of high value to the military leadership and resurrect them by replacing their hearts with a mechanical one made of a complex arrangement of relic power sources, reviving them. Only a small portion of the population of the Great Dunes has the potential to wield this power as it requires intense training and attunement to the deeper arcane energy.    Most Necromecanics are only able to reanimate a corpse for a short amount of time, usually just for the purpose of getting information out of them, or to carry out a simple task. The reanimation lasts longer the more experienced the Necromechanic, to a point in which the mage could have hundreds of the undead under their control indefinitely.   The amount of control that the practitioners have over the undead depends on their willingness to sacrifice the appearance of the resurrected as being wholly human. The undead which are entirely subservient to their necromecanic often have an exposed relic amalgam and are unable to speak or pass in any way as a human. Those that are able to pass as human entirely are almost entirely independent, with their necromecanics only able to give them commands in line with the ideals and wishes of their own. This means that if a resurrected that appeared and acted totally human was once a peaceful farmer could not be commanded to kill in cold blood, although a resurrected that resembles more to a rotting corpse than an alive human would follow their necromecanic's orders even if it meant their own death.   Notable Necromechanics include: Sparrow, The Vain, Penumbra, The Flower of Chwith; Icas, Mockingbird of The Mist
