Spaceships

OVERALL

Spaceship technology is utilised by every galactic empire in the galaxy. For anything to be a spaceship, it must be able to travel in warp speeds or jump through the void. There are different sizes and types of spaceships for both military and civilian use.

Military and Civilian types and sizes of spaceships

MILITARY

SIZES
The size of the ship can determine the ship’s pros and cons in combat, the bigger it is, the more weapons it will have, the bigger the warp engines will be, and the amount the equipment/military personnel you can carry. But the ship requires more people and resources to maintain the spacecraft.
  • Class A: 500 – 999 meters wide. Class A ships can land on planets and take off from them without any problems, they are the perfect size for rapid deployment of troops.
  • Class B: 1,000 – 2,999 meters wide. Class B ships can land on planets, but it is too risky because of their size. Class B ships are mostly used to defend planets or conduct scouting missions.
  • Class C: 3,000 – 5,999 meters wide. Class C ships cannot land on planets because it will make the ship fall apart due to their own weight. Class C ships will be mainly used for offensive operations.
  • Class D: 6,000 – 10,999 meters wide. Class D ships are able to carry and utilise planet-destroying weapons.
  • Class E: 11,000 – 100,000 meters wide. Class E ships are very rare because of the resources and the personnel needed to make them, mostly the empires don’t even make them. If a Class E ship of that size is made, it will usually be used as a solar system defence platform.

TYPES
These are the types and classifications of ships used by militaries in the Milky Way Galaxy. These classifications will not state any ships used in the galaxy or the weapons that will be attached, because it will be different for each empire.
  • Troop Carriers: Troop carriers carry the military personnel and vehicles across the galaxy. Troop carriers have very little weaponry because they make room to carry the troops, so they need other spaceships to protect it from enemy forces.
  • Battle Cruisers: Battle Cruisers are ships designed to provide defence against other spacecraft’s, they have weak armour, but they have tougher weapons.
  • Liberators: Liberators are ships that have powerful weapons and tough armour. They are mostly used for offensive missions.
  • Space Assault Ships: Space assault ships do the same thing that troop carriers do, except they are usually Class A ships, meaning they are able to land onto planets to serve as a fort.
  • Planet Killers: Planet killer ships are usually Class D ships, their purpose is to destroy planets if they see fit.
  • Warp Cruisers: Warp cruisers are ships designed to detect warp speeds, prevent the enemy from activating warp speeds, and cut warp speeds travel when they are in warp speeds. They can do this in a certain radius depending on the ship. Warp cruisers are also used to create warp speed maps that will be used to create easier and quicker travel when using warp speeds. They aren’t typically well armed or armoured, so they rely on other ships for protection.
  • Communications Vassals: Communication vassals are ships designed to conduct large distances communications with other ships, often they are used as a command centre for the fleet, they are heavily armed and armoured.
  • Naval Carriers: Naval carriers are ships designed to carry one or more large naval ships. The Ship will usually be a Class A or Class B. They won’t have lots of weapons or armour, so they rely on protection from other ships.
  • Hulk: The hulk is a ship designed to have lots of armour, but having fewer weapons. They are usually deployed to protect the sides and rears of ally ships.

CIVILIAN

SIZES
Sizes of civilian ships will determine the effectiveness of the ship in long-distance travel. Some civilian ships will have defensive capabilities, but it is unlikely because of the cost and regulations that each empire might have.
  • Class A: 100 – 399 meters wide. Class A ships can land on planets and take off from them without any problems, they are commonly used for the tourism industry.
  • Class B: 400 – 899 meters wide. Class B ships can land on planets just like Class A ships. Class B ships are usually used for supply ships. Their armed but they would be protected by a military convoy.
  • Class C: 900 – 1,599 meters wide. Class C ships can land on planets, but it is a bit risky because of their size. Class C ships are usually made to become colony ships.
  • Class D: 1,600 – 4,999 meters wide. Class D ships are typically made to become a warp relay or civilisation stations.
  • Class E: 5,000 – 10,000 meters wide. Class E ships are rare because of the cost and personnel needed to run the ship. Class E ships are typically used to be a trading hub for the solar system its stationed at.

TYPES
These types and classifications of ships are primarily used by the civilian population. The civilian population can arm and armoured their spaceship, but it would be costly depending on the empire and the weapon in question.
  • Personal Ship: Personal ships are spaceships that are privately owned by a civilian(s). A personal ship is usually a Class A ship, but it isn’t uncommon for a personal ship to be a Class C.
  • Supply ship: A supply ship is a ship that carries supplies. Supply ships are often used as a planetary trading ship, trading goods to those who want them.
  • Planetary police force ship: A planetary police force ship are ships that patrol the solar system to prevent pirates from harassing supply ships. They are armed with light weaponry to go against pirate ships, but they are not equipped to go against military combat ships.
  • Warp relay: Warp relays are ships that are made to assist civilian and military ships in giving them a boost when activating warp speeds, making go three times faster through warp speeds. Warp relays are usually a Class D ship with little to no weaponry.
  • Colony Ship: Colony ships are ships made to transport civilians and breeding pods to colonise a planet. Usually, the ship will have only one type of species, and light weaponry.
  • Civilisation Station: A civilisation station is ships designed to be a mobile civilisation. A civilisation station will have light weaponry and light armour. Civilisation stations will usually have the wealthy and the intellectuals.
  • Trading Hub: Trading hubs are giant spaceships designed to make trading in the solar system easier. Trading hubs are well armed and protected because of their importance.

Utility

The common uses of spacecraft are to travel or stationary in space. Spaceships can be designed for space warfare or a docking station. Missuses of the technology are making the spaceships become a base/buildings on the planet, or making the spaceship land on the planet.
Access & Availability
The technology is widely availed to all civilisations that are willing to utilise the technology.

I like how detailed you are with everything, yet organized enough so that it's not a slog to get through. That's a difficult skill to master, so kudos to you! My only question is: as a civilian, how can I get one of these ships?

To own your own spacecraft you basically have to be filthy rich or in a position of power. Since spaceships are expensive you also need a fair amount of resources and manpower and machinery to run the ships.

Oh, so it's like owning a private jet in today's world, then?

Yep.

This is how an article like that is supposed to be, imho. Well structured, as short as possible but as long as necessary, clear, understandable. Good work!   It's a little bit frightening, but intruiging, how the article talks about planet destroying machines like it's a common thing. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback.

Thou art the verriest of them welcommings!

Like said before, it's meaty enough to be a reliable source of knowledge, but doesn't overstay its welcome with the sheer length of it all. Though you do mention of military class C ships being too big to land planets, is it because of burning up into the atmosphere or due to other reasons?   Also maybe you could put the sizes and type names in bold, to make them pop out more from the text. Otherwise, keep going!

UPDATED, I’ve made some changes that made that would make sense. Now for the Class C ship thing they fall apart but by burning up into the atmosphere but crumble by the gravity of the planet.
