Barra Ap'zen, Luck in the Shadows, The Jet Blade; an enchanted and well honed elven blade of prophetic might. It was forged by an elven high priestess to defeat her enemies after it was prophesied a black blade would be the only thing that kept her house alive. Her family was slaughtered, save her youngest, who fled the family home with the blade before the attack.
A benevolent spirit is bound to the blade, and will warn its wielder of impending harm, as well as cause harm to those who attack its master. The weapon was forged of jet and tempered with blood. The blade is a murky black sharpened to a fine edge, with a simple bronze wrapped guard; an onyx emblem on the hilt depicts the name of the weapon, Barra Ap'zen, in an obscure dialect. The name acts as a command word to release the sword from its ornate scabbard, which is made of black formed leather detailed with bronze.

Significance

Crafted at the behest of the Matron of house Dark-Blood, to combat her houses foes. A blind seer foretold that only a black blade bound with a benevolent spirit would save her house from total obliteration. The blade was forged, enchanted, and taken up by her husband, who would wield it in an oncoming battle. However, on the eave of the battle, the youngest of the house stole away with the blade and fled. Barra Ap'zen kept the young elf alive in the Northern Wilds, the last Dark-Blood, fulfilling the blind seer's prophecy.

• Phantom Reaction: spirit bound to the blade reacts to oncoming attacks; the wielder can use a reaction to deal 1d8 + 1 psychic damage to an oncoming melee attacker

• Command Word: can only be drawn from it's scabbard with a command word, which is it's true name, Barra Ap'zen; someone already attuned to the blade can merely think the phrase to release it

This weapon is magical; add +1 to both the attack and damage rolls.
This weapon warns its master of impending harm; add +2 to initiative rolls while attuned to it.
The spirit bound to the sword responds to oncoming melee attacks on its master; as a reaction, interrupt a melee attacker that is about to hit (before the attack roll), stopping their attack and dealing 1d8+1 psychic damage to them. Once the sword is used this way, it can't be used again in the same way for another 24 hours.
