Xenoarchaeology Tradition / Ritual in The Galaxy | World Anvil

Xenoarchaeology

Xenoarchaeology is a branch of archaeology that focuses on the study of material remains of extraterrestrial cultures. Its foundation goes back to the year 2255 when the first faster-than-light ship, ENS Explorer, made first contact with the Elam. Then, a group of archaeologists came to a conclusion that in the vastness of the galaxy there must have been countless civilizations, which are now extinct. As the result of their lobbying, today every science ship of the Earth Colonial Navy has a xenoarchaeology team onboard. On many planets, there are more permanent archaeological missions.

Academic Organization

Today, every university in the United Republic of Earth and its Colonies that has an archaeology department focuses also on xenoarchaeology. Long academic tradition resulted in Earth universitites being the best in that field, but some colonial universities are slowly catching up. One such example is the University of New Warsaw. it is the only colonial university whose archaeology department teaches about Earth cultures. In other colonies the focus is mainly on xenoarchaeology.

Welcome to the Department of Archaeology of the University of New Warsaw. Most of you are probably here for xenoarchaeology, but here we remember the Earth origins of our discipline. You will learn how archaeology came to be on Earth, how it developed and you will learn about Earth culture. You are at the beginning of a great journey. Enjoy it!
