Spaceman
Spaceman is the lowest rank in the Earth Colonial Navy. Personnel with this rank perform a broad range of tasks in the navy. They serve in teams of 5-10 people under a Petty Officer. Those usually are engineering, security or medical teams.
Qualifications
There are no special qualifications required to become a Spaceman. However, it is recommended to continue education if one wants to advance higher in the ranks. While promotion to Petty Officer may be easy as displaying organization and leadership skills is enough, higher promotion would require additional qualifications.
Requirements
To enlist as a Spaceman one must be at least 18 years old, be a Human, pass a physical exam and a psychological evaluation. Gender plays no role in the enlisting process.
Candidates have to go to their local recruitment office and register for physical and psychological tests. They are usually contacted by the navy after a few days and receive the dates for the tests.
Appointment
After being accepted into the ranks, new recruits go to a training centre for a period of about a month. After the training they are sworn in as Spaceman of the ECN.
I, (insert full name), do swear I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to the United Republic of Earth and its Colonies and protect the honour of a soldier of the Earth Colonial Navy. I swear to obey the orders of the President and the Admirals of the Earth Space Command.
Some soldiers add "So help me God", or equivalent, at the end of the oath, but it isn't mandatory.
Duties
It is expected from every Spaceman (as well as other ranks) to serve the ECN and the United Republic faithfully and with all heart. Every member of the navy has to maintain the honour of the organization.
Responsibilities
A Spaceman's responsiblities vary depending on their assignment. What is similar about most of them is that they are aren't generally very complex and specialized. Spacemen serve also in a ship's kitchen or may assist in operation of the guns.
