ECNS Ghost of Kyiv

ECNS Ghost of Kyiv is a destroyer in service of the Earth Colonial Navy. It is named after an alleged Ukrainian fighter ace from the war in 2022.

The Ghost of Kyiv may be just a legend, but he is a symbol of steadfastness, resistance, unity and hope. All those things are important in war. I'm proud to command a ship with such a patron
— Captain Henry Baker, current commanding officer of the Ghost of Kyiv

Ghost of Kyiv took part in the Battle of the Pleiades during the first stage of the Federation-Krawk Border War in 2285. It was assigned as an escort for the ECNS Caesar, flagship of the fleet, and performed very well in this role. It even came close to being boarded by the enemy, but thanks to the courage of its crew it was avoided.

In 2350 the Ghost of Kyiv was transfered from the Standing Fleet to the 3rd Rapid Response Fleet. It now patrols the frontier between the United Republic's space and Krawk space.

Power Generation

As all human starships, the Ghost of Kyiv is powered by two reactors. The first one is a fusion reactor that provides power to all the ship's systems except FTL. FTL engines are powered by a zero-point reactor.

Propulsion

For FTL travel, the ship uses the Alcubierre-Reynard Drive which works by bending spacetime around the ship, allowing it to travel faster than light.

For sublight speeds, the ship uses plasma engines. Additionally, it also has small manoeuvring thrusters. They are used for all kinds of delicated manouvers such as docking at a space station.

Weapons & Armament

Ghost of Kyiv is equipped with two railguns as well as three torpedo launchers. Two at the front and one at the back. As a destroyer, it has no fighters. Additionally, it has four autocannons that are used for defensive purposes against missiles and fighters.

Armor and defense

The ship's hull is covered in titanium, which is covered in carbon phenolic to protect from high-heat radiation. Apart from that the Ghost of Kyiv also has energy shields. They provide protection from anything present naturally in space that can damage the ship. Shields also offer some protection against energy weapons.
