Black Hole Research Group Organization in The Galaxy | World Anvil

Black Hole Research Group

Black Hole Research Group is a human scientific organization dedicated to the study of black holes. It is a relatively young organization, founded only 70 years ago in 2300. The main goal of the group is to find a safe and efficient way of utilizing black holes in energy production. Sadly, there was very little progress made towards it. To this day, all experiments with that have ended in tragedy. People and equipment were crushed by black holes. This lead to the group being on the verge of disbandment several times, but every time a wealthy investor was stepping in and saving the group.

How much money went down that black hole sink already? 5 billion? 10? Not to mention the human casualties! I'm for shuting the group down.

The group operates from a space station in the Merope system in the Pleiades cluster. In FTL, it is just a few days way to the closes black hole from there. However, the group isn't conducting any experiments today. They only operate automated scanning posts and analyze the black hole data from a safe distance. Some people say that the group has an artifical black hole onboard their station. However, the group denies any such claims. If this was true, it would mean that the group broke its current contract with the government which stated that the group is forbidden from conducting any experiments that could endanger the lives of people involved in them. The government wants the group to develop safer ways of conducting such experiments first.

The group also operates three science ships, but as most of the work is currently focused on data analysis the ships don't see much action. One of the ships is regularly going on a supply route and delivers food and water to the station.
