The village in the ice

Demographics

Everyone is equal. All hunt, for there is never enough food to keep you from joining the ice. There is no marriage, only partners, since the warmth of a body is too important to keep from others.

Government

The elders form a council in case a crime happens, which rarely does. Besides that, there is not much to govern and rules have been set up long ago. If those didn't work, the village would have already been abandoned. There is no room for much more than a passing disagreement if the village wants to continue to function.

Defences

There is a wall of ice, that grows each time it snows. Its main purpose is to keep the larger animals out. Defense against the cold is more important to the villagers and that, the wall also provides, as it shields from the harsh winds.

Industry & Trade

There is not really an industry to speak of. There are some other villages that can be traded with, but that's mostly in knowledge (where animals reside, signs from the gods, etc.). What maybe could be called trade are the presents that men give to women from other villages; they get warmth in return.

Infrastructure

There are structures the ancestors have build. They might have been beautiful a long time ago, but every bit of decoration has withered away, so that only blocks of materials the natives don't know how to make remained. They keep warm however, that is the important part. Warmer than anything the natives can make from the little resources they have available. Because of that, they are used as community rooms where the natives reside most of the time. If the Gods grant the village flowers, those houses will be decorated. The houses the villagers can make themselves are holes in the snow and ice, that can reach relatively deep. They keep the warmth in. They are patted with various animal furs. A wall of ice surrounds the village, so predators can't get in.

Assets

Most of the equipment is made of animal parts. Bones are quite sturdy and claws quite sharp. Valuables include dried flowers, and things from the ancestors like knifes made of metal, artificial fires and such. There are also some toys made by the ancestors, no adult has had the heart to process into more useful things.

Guilds and Factions

There are those that can tell stories; they have one home of the ancestors. There are those that can craft more beautiful things than the others; they have one home of the ancestors. There are the elders, who have a new home made every time they meet, for it get's buried with the issues of the past. There are those that can read the stars better than the others and see the signs from the gods; they have the greatest home of the ancestors.

History

The elders tell tales from their youth. Those that live in the home of storytellers speak of the ancestors, though what is fiction and what is not, one can not say. The ones that see the signs from the Gods tell from the Gods and how they made the Earth. There is not much more known history.

Architecture

The homes of the ancestors are plain and made of a material that is not quite stone, but preserves heat very well. The homes the natives make are not much more than holes and an entrance covered by fur.

Geography

The villages is build on a plain and not much more is in its surroundings. Water comes from ice, beauty from within.

Natural Resources

The only natural resources come from hunted animals. These include of course bones, teeth, claws, furs and everything else that can be used.
