The Green Goddess

The Bringer of the Great Harvest, and the Fertile Mother of All

The Green Goddess is one of the oldest deities worshiped in the Free Kingdoms, and one of the most popular. She watches over farmers and hunters, and provides for communities and families, as well. Any who work the land pay respect to her, and her clergy is a unifying and guiding force in any community. Most men and halflings worship her above all. Her sister is the Matron of the Wilds, although the Green Goddess takes a much more lenient approach to nature; she provides its bounty, not its wrath. She is also a goddess of healing and life, and is worshiped by mothers, apothecaries, etc. The Green Goddess teaches her followers to live in harmony with the world around them, and to strike the delicate balance between civilization and the wilderness.

Divine Domains

  • The Green Goddess rules over life and birth, as well as the agrarian aspects of nature. She is also associated with community and prosperity.
  • Clerics of the Green Goddess might choose the Life or Nature domains. Paladins of hers might be rare, but they would likely swear the Oath of the Ancients, or perhaps the Oath of Redemption.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

  • Her most common symbol is a branch of yew; priests use wands carved from yew, adorned with holy letters, in their rituals.
  • Holy symbols of the Green Goddess are almost always made of wood. Metal or stone symbols cannot channel her magic.
  • Bundles of grain (wheat, barley, etc.) are commonly seen as offerings to the Green Goddess, and the crop are associated with her worship.
  • Songbirds are sacred animals to her religion, and hunting them is forbidden by the Green Goddess.

Tenets of Faith

  • You may Work the Land to make It Provide for You, but You must Take Care of It, or It will Shrivel and Die.
  • You must Be Like the Land. Provide for Those who Tend to You, and never discern in the Gifts you offer.
  • You must Defend the Land from Those who would Despoil It, and Those who Represent Abominations.
