Circuitous Edge Geographic Location in The Flying Flux | World Anvil

Circuitous Edge

The Higher Lands rest within a valley; at its center flows the High Ocean. Moving inward, one would eventually reach the barren Inner Lands, while travelling in the opposite direction brings most adventurers to an elongated mountain known as Circuitous Edge.
Running the entire length of Flux, this great formation acts as a divide between the peaceable Highlands and the treacherous Outlands. Few live here by choice due to the high concentration of Iron and stagnant magical power, but there are a few daring artists who traverse it for the breathtaking view during Parallelis.

Geography

As seen in the model above, the Flying Flux is shaped into a massive hollow C with a flattened top (the Highlands). The Inlands are naturally found on the inside edge, while the Outlands blanket the outer surface, divided by the vast mountain known as Circuitous Edge.

Fauna & Flora

Dangerous animals are found in abundance in most magic-dense areas due to the harsh terrain and scarce supply of food. This, however, does not apply to the great C.E., which is mostly populated by fluffy herbivores and harmless mystivores. Such beings are fairly elusive, though some have been captured and domesticated into exotic pets for the wealthiest royal families. The presence of intelligent life has been speculated, but has yet to be proven.
Strange plants with various magical properties texture this mountain, most notably the large iron vines that unceremoniously protrude from its otherwise beautiful surface. These are said to have created a disproportionate amount of magic to localize and manifest a less-than-hospitable environment for rational minds. In an attempt to eliminate this, the Higher Lands export large amounts of iron and regularly take part in Iron Away, but to no avail.
