Bumblup Technology / Science in The Flying Flux | World Anvil

Bumblup

Similar in design to a wheelbarrow, this tool is most commonly found on Lowland farms. It's use is fairly simple; to move a moderate amount of supplies from one place to another with minimal effort, though the cheaper models are notorious for tipping and often wind up creating even more work. It typically consists of a barrel strapped to a hovering panel that can be guided by utilizing some variety of handle. Some of the more expensive models are often capable of expanding to accommodate a larger quantity.

Utility

It can be used quite easily. Because it acts like an artifact and uses some kind of magical enhancement, the user must only will it to descend while firmly gripping the handles to lower the floating platform. The barrel on top is then filled with whatever is to be transported, then pushed to a destination, lowered, and emptied. There have been a few innovative Fluxers that explored customization options, but this is how one would normally use it.

Manufacturing

Times have only gotten worse. With the recent onset of peace, the locals have become rather unsettled and mental illness has spread rapidly. In fact, it's not uncommon to find mutilated bodies buried inside a stray bumblup, especially in the lowlands. This has prompted a few additional regulations, such as transparent containers and a license to use the ones that expand. However, because they have not been retracted, they are still abundant across Flux.

Access & Availability
This particular device can typically be found in the Higher Lands (where scavengers and merchants often roam) and Lower Lands (where most of Flux's farmland is). It is sold in the Midlands as well, but since the divisions don't allot an excessive amount of space or the freedom to express, there is little need for this particular tool.
