Frost Bear

Frost Bears make their home in the Bitter North , a snow swept tundra unfit for most life. They are relentless hunters, and can track prey from miles away by scent alone. Their bodies are covered in a chitinous layer of ice that helps protect them from anything foolish enough to attack them. They are also known to have a breath attack that can briefly freeze their prey in place. It is widely held that this breath weapon takes some amount of time to recharge before it can be utilized again.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Frost Bears have mystical blue blood flowing through their veins. It is believed that this trait is what allows the bears to thrive in the extreme cold of the Bitter North.   Because of their adaptation to the harsh environs of the Bitter North, they are unusually susceptible to fire damage.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Frost Bears are carnivores. While they prefer to eat fresh kills, they will consume carrion when necessary.  They are stealth hunters, and are often able to attack their prey before they are even noticed.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Issbondi barbarians consider it a rite of passage into adulthood to solo hunt a Frost Bear, and eat its heart.   The hide and fur of the Frost Bear are used for a variety of clothing and armor.   Nobles of Frostryme pay very well for cloaks and other clothing made from the fur of the rare blue Frost Bears.   Their blood is useful to alchemists and arcane scribes in the creation of certain magickal items.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Frost Bears are almost exclusively found in the Bitter North, and with less frequency in the Dead Woods .

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Frost Bears possess an extraordinary sense of smell.  They can track prey from several miles away by scent alone.  Their eyesight is decent, but is usually obscured by their protective sheen of ice.
These are truly impressive beasts.  I would delight in an opportunity to examine one.  Not a live one, mind you ...
