Newell, The Religious Pneumatic
Newell
Mental characteristics
Personal history
Between the circumstances of his creation and his arrival in The Finite City, Newell has yet to see much. The process by which he and the other Pneumatics had been stripped from their home cannot be understated. The harsh and abrupt transition from their home dimension to Depthopolis has brought a level of trauma to every pneumatic, but none so brutal and psychologically damaging as Newell's. This Pneumatic is allegedly religious, but sadly there's no physical proof of this religion he mentions. Stricken by grief, feeling what could be evidence for the absolute meaninglessness of everything, Newell stumbled deep into solitude. This wasn't common for him and as possibly the biggest influence on his brothers, he felt the guilt on his shoulders tenfold. A reason for hope, for his brothers, stripped in this interdimensional realization.
This was only a start, due to his solitude, he refused to attend excursions into Depthopolis that were unknowingly commissioned by the mayor himself. This would eventually result in a citizen's resignation, deeming him, and one of his brothers, illegal immigrants of Depthopolis, causing them to go into hiding. This did not stop his solitary behavior however, and over the coming months it would take the combined effort of some of his closest brothers to help him recover.
Morality & Philosophy
Newell the Pneumatic was possibly the most crucial member of the Pneumatic family, with no guiderail for morality, the Pneumatics typically begin to conflict, especially between the more philosophical ones. Keeping the ship steady, Newell provides his brothers with advice on how to treat others and serve them, he believes that people are important and deserve the same, no matter who they are to any degree. That doesn't mean he has his more selfish moments, but he stands in contrast to one of his brothers, a Pneumatic by the name of Lest. The two are not opposites, but are rather two sides of one argument, "should you give away, expecting something in return, or should you put your faith in others, that they will do the same for you". Newell presents the more empathetic approach, expecting nothing, but to give his all for anybody who asks it of him. He is someone who tries not to be biased and accepts people for who they are and respects those he knows.
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Newell describes a book where he has received his wisdom, it resonates with many Earthling books known as "Bibles". But many of the texts he describes do not match any known words in the known sources of scriptures from these series of books.
Likes & Dislikes
Newell is always happy to see when his wisdom is resorted to by the other Pneumatics, but not in a proud way. He finds joy in knowing that his brothers trust his words from memory.
