Foundation

Scope

Fabulae originally began as nothing more than a simple roleplaying setting. Then it began to expand into something that I someday want to play with some other people in.

The selling point is mostly how it tries to humanise a fantastical world, where epics, mythical creatures and myths have a level of grounded reality to them.

Theme

Genre-wise, it's a very much cluster of all kinds of ideas and area-specific storytelling: from your typical dungeon crawl adventure to delving into psychological horror of concepts unimaginable by mankind.

The world feels like a very down-to-earth place amongst magical adventures, where everyone can become an epic hero but the magical elements is sometimes not that surprising anymore.

Tone-wise, Fabulae can fall anywhere from being serious to somewhat joking about its lore. Tongue-in-cheek would be the best way to describe it.

Everyone can technically make themselves become (in)famous amongst the land, but it heavily depends how long their influence might last, or if their name might be even remembered.

Reoccurring Themes

  1. Everyone has a tale to be told, no matter how insignificant it might be.
  2. Nothing lasts forever, so make the best of what time you have left.
  3. Rarely there are black and whites, sometimes there is not best choice in life.

Meta

  • Race Relations: Way too many races interacting with one another.
  • Religious Influence: How mortal faith gives divine entities power
  • Arts & Culture Influence: How the tales and ideals of culture and society shape groups.

Drama

  1. The reunification of Roselia
  2. The Yokai infestation of Zipangu
  3. The shattered rulership of Sichelan
  4. The looming Demon/Angel threat
  5. The remains of the Myopsians' past.

Setting

Rules of the World

  1. Nothing lasts forever: Even immortal entities one day either change or die. Cultures shift, empires fall, nothing exists forever.
  2. Belief in one thing can give it power, faith in an individual or concept can give it strength.
  3. Anything is possible with enough dedication and willpower, as absurd it might sound.

Cosmology

Some divine entity had an idea for a world and a story to tell in it, so she created the Cosmic Hourglass.

Geography

Fabulae has a mixture of regular geography and also bizarre, otherworldly places affected by things like magic or outsiders. Basically earth but much crazier

Initial size of building

Most of it is focused on the continent of Sichelan, but there is worldbuilding for beyond the continent.

People and their History

There's just way too many groups and cultures to talk about.
