First Empress
Nine-Tailed Fox
Empress ███████ ██ ███ (a.k.a. First Empress)
I use loyal subjects like you to set the example for those that aren't. If you are lucky enough, your death might be swift and painless. Might be.
In Zipangu's history, one of its most notorious figures is their first empress. A merciless Kitsune who brought despair under her ruling, and even after her death haunts the nation.
With her original name struck from records, she now lies imprisoned in stone near the Kitsunayama mountains. But even weakened, people fear her return one day.

Special abilities
Perfecting both the ways of inhuman durability and god-like magic, the First Empress has a trick for almost every occassion. Through vigirous training and a long life of experience using it, she harnesses both with the force of a natural disaster.
Combined with her Titan blood, it makes her both hard to beat and even harder to kill. Any bodily harm gets shrugged off, and at best can daze her. However, there are limits to her durability, even if nobody knows what those are.

Personal history
Early Life
Daughter of Yakumo, the First Empress's early life has been a mystery for scholars and researchers alike. She dates back all the way to Prehistoria, beginning her life as a mere fox. One with a morbid curiosity for the world and the nigh immortal gift of a Titan.
As such, she explored all of Tai, learning and studying whatever she could grab her hands on. Under many teachers, she learned the ways of magic and countless other arts. She was the first Kitsune to achieve a human form, shapeshifting her bestial looks through arcane means.
Over time, she gathered power unlike any seen before, both physical and magical. Soon enough she did not need to satisfy her physical needs anymore, becoming a goddess in the flesh. Yet, her wicked nature led her to use it for more nefarious trickery.
With nothing more to learn, the Kitsune dabbled into the politics of Hua Xia. For her amusement, she manipulated rulers as she pleased and stirred unrest wherever she went. Scholars assume she is responsible for the collapse of its first dynasty, alongside many wars and genocides.
Even if she got caught, she fled to another region of the continent only to begin anew. And with every encounter, her image intertwined further into folklore as the nine-tailed fox.
Arrival on Zipangu
When she got bored of messing with Hua Xia, the fox put her eyes towards Zipangu. When she arrived on the island, she didn't hesistate to claim it as her own.
To do so, she wormed her way into a position of power only to kill the former rulers. Once she had usurped one throne, she moved to the next, assimilating groups across the nation under her banner. Any that rejected her offer either up enslaved or worse, eradicated.
In the span of 5 years, her conquest spread to the corners of the land, leaving almost no area unturned. From it came the First Zipangu Empire, earning her the title of First Empress.
Rulership of Zipangu
I give you the privilege to die, don't make me revoke it.
From her ruling came an age of tyranny, as she did not care for the lives of her subjects. For her, it was to live a luxurious life of royalty and riches, not to be a genuine leader of her people.
To do so, she employed the help of only the most loyal subjects, providing benefits and boons wherever possible. In the same vain she used punishments for disloyalty, often with death as result. Entire towns got burned down to deal with a single rebel, just to show an example to the rest of the empire. Any disobedience was met with the worst fate.
Some could not even escape through death, as she took their souls as a reward. Either added to her being to grow her endless power, or as fuel for creations born from her magic.
Over time, her name became so infamous people believed saying it would summon her. Nobody dared to speak or write it out of fear, with only a few royal records ever noting it down.
Family and Failed Expansion
During the later years of her ruling , she had a child named Kuzunoha. However, their ideologies clashed, leading to a conflict between mother and daughter. While the Empress saw mortals as nothing but subjects, Kuzunoha showed more compassion to them.
In an act uncharacteristic for her, she exiled her to Hua Xia rather than execute her. Should Kuzunoha return to the island though, she would not hesistate to kill her anyways.
Even so, she had her eyes on Hua Xia already, planning to conquer it and expand her empire. As such, she prepared a fleet and sailed off, ready to invade the mainland. By the time she arrived at the eastern coast, she met the Monkey King himself, Sun Wukong, warned by her daughter.
With the other immortal in front of her, she did not step back and confronted him head-on. in an epic fight known as the Immortal Duel, the two fought one-on-one, pulling almost no stops. Mountains broke, craters formed and the heavens filled with the light of their magic. A brawl that took 3 days and 3 nights, with neither showing any sign of stopping.
That was until Wukong tricked the Kitsune, flying into her mouth as a fly and forcing her to barf some of her power up. Weakened, beaten and humiliated, she fled the battle with her tails between her legs, postponing her conquest.
Imprisonment
When she returned to Zipangu though, the First Empress was met with not only a rebellious force, but her very own daughter leading it. In the few days she was gone, Kuzunoha rallied up the citizens alongside the Titan that made the islands: Daidarabotchi.
From such confrontation came the War that Broke Heaven, fought between the Empress, her daughter and the Titan. While many folk tried to aid Kuzunoha along the fight, it only helped distract the Empress at best. Those that came between either, whether accidental or on purpose, got slaughtered in the crossfire.
One of the final blows thrown at her was by Daidarabotchi, who smashed a mountain on her head birthing to the twin peaked Kitsunayama mountains. Alas, it was not enough, with the Titan getting slain by the First Empress's blade soon after.
That one moment though was enough for Kuzunoha to pin her down. With the help of priests, she got stripped of her power as they imprisoned her inside the Empress Rock. What nobody expected was what would happen if such power was released.
All arcane power she gained tore open the Ethereal Veil across Zipangu, unleashing spirits onto the world. Yokai spilled onto the lands as one final act of the First Empress's tyranny.
Ever since, she remained in that rock, hoping to one day break free.
Education
Throughout her life the First Empress got taught by teachers of all corners of Tai. Everything from mathematics and astrology to the schools of magic and the understanding of one's body. Whether it by herself studying from afar or taking lessons from the greatest minds of the east.
Even during her rulership she educated herself on anything she could find. But with her tyrannical nature she often forced it out of most, giving few even a choice to begin with.
Morality & Philosophy
I am the child of the mightiest Titan of Tai, Yakuma the Destroyer. You are a mere farmer of a family no one remembers. You'll never achieve what I am.
The First Empress believes that some are born with a gift or the luck to succeed in life. That in the end, it all comes down to one's bloodline and heritage, not what one does to achieve it. Some beings are inferior, others superior, and that nothing could change that.
