The Changing of the Crown

Summer is for growing, winter is for harvesting.

History

The Changing of the Crown is a ritual that has been occurring since before recorded history remembers. It is considered the most sacred of the Fae's traditions as it honors the duality of their nature.  It is also a private ceremony to the fae and is mostly unknown outside their realm.

Execution

The Changing of the Crown is a highly ritualized ceremony that occurs as the Sun hits the sacred stone in the Solstice Castle on the day of the equinox.     The current monarch removes the crown and places it on the plinth while they say the oath of release, "I the Queen of Roses/King of Thorns release the power of the Monarchs Aspect as Spring/Fall releases its hold over the world." With the oath of release spoken, the monarch returns to their normal form and the crown takes on the aspects of the thorns and roses.   The new monarch then takes the crown and says the oath of acceptance, "I the King of Thorns/Queen of Roses accept the power of the Monarchs Aspect as Fall/Sprint accepts its hold over the world." at which time the new monarch takes the crown, transforming into the Monarch Aspect of the new season.

Components and tools

The ceremony uses two physical items, the sacred plinth and @mon

Observance

The Changing of the Crown occurs twice a year as reign is passed between the monarchs. The actual ritual occurs at the moment of the exact equinox, the time when the two seasons are considered perfectly equal.   During the Vernal Equinox, The Queen of Roses is elected amongst the noble houses to rule over the lands during the planting and growing seasons.   Likewise, during the Autumnal Equinox, The King of Thorns  is elected to rule over the lands during the harvesting seasons.
