The Eternal City

No one who lives in the Eternal City knows where it ends. Some have theorized that the buildings simply never end, crawling onwards and outwards towards an unending horizon. Others believe that the boundaries simply get further away each day, eating up whatever land is left on the planet and replacing it with retail parks and skyscrapers as far as the eye can see. Most folk have simply stopped asking the question however. To them, the reality of endless metros, crooked skylines, and concrete labyrinths is the only reality they've ever known. It's probably all they ever will know.   The Eternal City is living infrastructure, evolving and changing as times go by. Buildings are raised and torn down, billboards are written and rewritten, and strange and exotic plants live their short lifespans in window boxes and street gardens. The only thing to remain a constant are the layouts of the streets and city blocks, and the hidden tunnels of subways and infrastructure underneath it all. Automated Custodians make routine patrols around the city, performing simple functions and maintaining the city's hidden machinery.   There's a lot about the Eternal City that its civilians don't know.
