The Darkness

The Darkness originates in the ethereal plane, a plane parallel to the mortal one. It is a substance, like a liquid or gas that houses an enormous ammount of energy and seeps through everything. It permanently seeps through the border between the two planes into the mortal one. It is attracted to the moon in a comparable way that the tides are. Whenever the moon gets closer to the planet not only the tides are rising, but also more of the darkness is pulled into the mortal realm.
The Darkness has a passive effect on all organism in the way of empowering certain physical or mental attributes. This can be seen especially during The Eternal Night, where all the beasts became extremely monsterous and the civilized tribes became more intelligent and formed the alliance.
During the Enternal Night the Alliance developed a way to concentrate the darkness and use it to make bolts of energy. This first use of the energy called the darkness was the beginning of a technique that they called "Magic". Later during the fights against the hordes they advanced in their understanding of the use of the darkness and developed more techniques, like conjuring a fireball.
