Inner Sanctum Council Chambers

The Council Chambers of the Inner Sanctum are located above the Grandmasters Chambers in the Worldbuilders' Guild Hall. Unlike the floors below, the Council Chambers are usually quiet, if for no other reason than the hike up the stairs usually knocks the wind out of those Inner Sanctum members who spend too much time building worlds and not enough time walking around them.

Purpose / Function

The Council Chambers were built when the decision was made for The Guild to have senior ranks above the Grandmasters. Because these ranks were to be restricted in number, the Chambers were designed to accommodate a meeting room, workshops, and sleeping quarters.

Design

From the entry, the first area is a large open room with four tables, each seating six individuals on a side. There is a raised dais with a three chairs for when members of Golden Forge come to address the Inner Sanctum.   Beyond that room is a long hallway with twenty-four doors along each side and one at the end. The doors on the side lead into narrow rectangular rooms that serve as workshops and personal quarters for a member of the Inner Sanctum. These rooms greatly reflect the tastes of the individual members. Each does have a window to provide light and fresh air.   The overall chambers design is remarkably tasteful for a part of the Worldbuilders' Guild Hall. The floor is the same granite used for the construction of most of the building, but it is inlaid with an intricate pattern of rings made from a blue stone. The walls of the main meeting room and the outsides of the personal quarters are painted an off-white and coated with many layers of varnish that give the room a warm, glowing appearance.

Entries

There is a wooden door at each end of the chambers. On the end with the meeting room there is a an arrow pointing down embossed into it. This door opens on the stairs leading down to the Grandmasters Chambers.   At the other end of the room, at the farthest reach of the hallway between the workshops, is a door with an embossed arrow pointing up. This door opens onto the stairs that lead up to the Hall of Legends .
This was a nice, quiet place until one of those damned Legends decided to get their exercise by walking through each day. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't so damned cheerful all the time.—Anonymous Inner Sanctum Member

Denizens

The Inner Sanctum member Hephaestus has recently brought a housekeeper into the chambers. Signora Nessa, who until recently was employed at the Universita Tessitura (until an unfortunate incident led to her unemployment) keeps the place tidy and daily bakes a batch of lemon tarts.   The signora is deaf as a post and primarily communicates through the rolling of eyes and shrugging of her shoulders. Attempts to direct her toward particular areas that need attention usually require exertions that resemble a cross between charades and an epileptic fit. Most members have given up and just leave her to her business.   A small personal area has been fashioned for her in a corner where a curtain provides privacy.

Contents & Furnishings

The tables and chairs in the meeting room are very nicely made and barely used. There is a long runner that runs the length of the hallway, but even it is only beginning to show signs of wear. The furnishings of the chambers are of better quality than might be expected, because the original plans had anticipated this area being used much more frequently for events of state.   Inside the various workshops is a different matter. Some of the Inner Sanctum only rarely make use of their rooms, while others are in use almost daily. Some are neat and orderly, while others have piles of books and papers, spilled ink, half-eaten sandwiches, and the other detritus common among the academic sort.

Alterations

The Council Chambers are very much as originally constructed, with the exception of indoor plumbing, which has been installed in what are now called the Chambers' Chamber. The plumbing for this runs down through the Grandmasters' Chambers, where the rumblings of the pipes are generally referred to as "a message from on high".
