The Archive

Structure

There are many divisions within The Archives, it is vital that these divisions interact in an efficient matter when handling important information and research. For every main division, there is a Head who reports to the board, the Specialists report to the Head and the Researchers report to the Specialists.   Board: Created by the founders of each division. Their main responsibility is to make sure that information is being kept within the files of the organisation.   Head: These people are experts within their divisions, they are usually species that have more brain processing capabilities in order to know so much information without being so overwhelmed they die. The main goal of a Head is to make sure things are moving along on the planned progress and to communicate with other division Head's.   Specialists: Self-explanatory, these roles are filled by species who are dedicated to a particular area of research, they will also revise new data before it is officially catalogued by Researchers.   Researchers: Species that do most of the groundwork, processing information, proofing, finding and interpreting data.

Culture

The culture within The Archive is strict, there is a tension that is woven into the atmosphere all the time but the species who work within this organisation are people who thrive in these environments. Open-minded and wide-eyed, they are ready to witness and record anything and everything. Their belief is that, with the accumulation of all knowledge is power, they can help with mediating wars and the effort put into civilisations. This knowledge is to be used only in helping, not in any adverse choices. However, really is this information ever used outside of The Archive due to the danger of revealing too much information to a civilisation when they are not ready to hear it.

Public Agenda

The motivation behind The Archive is to obtain, research and log as much information about the Universe as possible. This is to ensure that we understand how things work and to obtain Universal Knowledge that can be shared and understood by some (or all). Knowledge has always been something of curiosity, that is how many planets and interstellar communities found each other, by looking into the Universe.

Assets

The Archives has unlimited knowledge and the ability to travel at the speed of light. With many people working in tandem to record new information and restore lost documents, they are not short of intellect. These things are important and are vastly being updated as time goes on and new maths and science become apparent, there is always a more efficient way to obtain data.

History

Curiosity sparked a thought, to look into the skies, and from that moment on for billions of years to come, knowledge would be acquired. The Archive was established around the 9.2 billion year mark (age of the Universe), by an unknown source (which is ironic). Growing from the local group, where people of Old Earth reached for the stars and made contact with their closest star and their civilisations. With the expanding array of information being gathered, new species and planets came into the picture. Some where willing to work along side The Archive, wanting to achieve the same goal of understanding. Those who weren't willing to becoming additions to the growing collective where willing to offer up history from their worlds. Some weren't and The Archive never pushed.   Having good relationships from the beginning of their establishment helped keep them out of trouble. Some planets were not as welcoming to strangers asking about their histories and pastimes, The Archive knew that if they were to survive as an organisation they couldn't force people to offer up their worlds timeline. Being able to keep themselves out of harms way and not the target of any governments, has giving them the oppertunity remain some what under the radar. However, a notable issue The Archive'd faces was a section of The Archives Database was erased. It was determined it was due to an issue with a failing hard drive, though the condense wasn't able to be recovered some found it curious. The data retired to a planet and its species found ni the later half of the Universe's age of 13.8 billions years. There have been smaller situations but data was able to be recovered or replaced.

Technological Level

The technology that The Archive use isn't groundbreaking in any way, it's just sophisticated. With incredible computer engineers, a cloud supercomputer was created in order to house all of the information and research The Archive record. there is some risk with the engineers knowing the ins and outs of this system but these people are needed in order to keep things maintained and running, they are vetted and cleared before access is granted and they are kept under tabs incase they try to access information.

Foreign Relations

There are very few places that aren't willing to interact with The Archive, expanding outward from the Local Group each civilisation and species The Archive came across were willing to teach them about their cultures. There were some places that were more apprehensive, or outright not interested, The Archive did its best to prove good intentions where it saw sway was possible but this was never done out of malicious intent.    Civilisations that are newer (>1-3 billion years old) are more apprehensive about sharing their worlds, or they have been placed in an off-limits area for being underdeveloped. The Archive can watch from afar though.

Laws

No one is to speak about their research in any capacity outside of their designated group, this will result in a punishment worst than death.

Infrastructure

There are no permeate settlements for this organisation, their infrastructure is well-kept ships and heavy security measures.

#Galaxy24 is a creative challenge pitched to worldbuilders and the creative community at large by Chris McDowall of Bastionland Press (@bastionland). The TLDR is to make a Galaxy of 52 stars in a Year, by following simple formula of:
    • create a star every Monday
    • make other points of interest or planets on Tuesday-Friday
    • add extra hooks and adventures on Saturday and Sunday

Why do I get the feeling that the portion of their database was wiped for a reason...? This organization sounds so rad. I'm curious as to whether their limit on adverse choices actually works, though. Since they're not omnipotent, there could definitely be choices made that turn out to be harmful/destructive. Or is there a saboteur at work?!

One would think it was wiped for a reason, wouldn't they? There have defiantly been some back fires, it's something I need to work on more for sure. I need more time to work on all the history of them!
