Stonetouched
"I'll admit, when they said they were sending their finest stonesmith, I was expecting someone shorter."Planetouched with strong ties to the Plane of Earth, the Stonetouched frequently appear in communities of Dwarves, where they fit in without issues for the most part. Other than this, they are most frequently born to modest farming communities, where their rare presence is met with anything from shock and horror to celebration as a rare sign of The Bearer's favor. Stubborn, stoic, and strong, they rarely stray from such communities unless they are forcibly cast out, and being ostracized in this way can stick with them for life. Those that do have a drive to explore often do it out of curiosity about their strange origins or to solve some critical problem in their home communities. Physically, Stonetouched vary perhaps more than any other type of Planetouched. Those in Dwarven communities tend to have a stature and build similar to their brethren, and tend to be called 'Stoneblood Dwarves' rather than being racially differentiated further. Outside of these communities, they sometimes veer towards the opposite extreme, displaying immense sizes and builds that brand them with the fitting name of Goliaths. Some lack either trait, however, and in any case they have subtler tells; they almost always have unusually rigid brown hair, and some have shining skin or deep dark eyes. Some have less modest appearances, with spikey hair of a crystalline sheen or with rocky protrusions and visibly rough skin.
Racial Modifiers
- Characteristics: Stonetouched gain +1 bonus to STR and WP, but suffer a -1 to POW.
- Varied Size: Many Stonetouched bear physical builds closer to that of Dwarves, while others are hulking goliaths. In either case, they may take the Unnatural Size Advantage for free.
- Stone Body: Stonetouched naturally possess AT 2 against all attacks except those based on Energy, but suffer a -1 to Movement Value. They may additionally spend a point of Fatigue as a passive action to reduce the damage of any Physical attack (or similar damage sources such as traps or falls) that is not based on energy by half.
- Cavesight: Stonetouched possess a strange ability to see as if the stones were lighting their way. When in caves or structures of stone or earth, they ignore any penalties caused by natural darkness.
- Heavy: Stonetouched are roughly three times heavier than their size would imply, suffer a -40 to Jump and -20 to Climb checks, and are incapable of swimming due to their density. However, they suffocate half as quickly as other races (from water or otherwise). At the same time, they are especially difficult to move; they gain a +3 to STR rolls against any Impact or attempt to use Trap or Take Down maneuvers on them, and anyone opposing a Trapping or Take Down attempt by the Stonetouched must have at least 8 Strength or be obligated to use Agility or Dexterity (attempting to use Strength simply fails). These abilities only apply when the character is firmly on the ground.
- Stonewhisper: Much like Dwarves, Stonetouched have a strong connection to earth and stone, though they lack the more offensive affinities of this power. They gain a +20 bonus to Notice and +40 to Search related to stonework, as well as +20 to any Forging, Runes, or Trap Lore checks made in regards to these materials.
- Imbalance towards Earth: Stonetouched that learn elemental abilities are obligated to focus in those related to Earth first. In other words, their first Path of Magic or Elemental Compatibility must be Earth, and their first Psychic Discipline must be Physical Increase. However, they gain an additional +10 MA or +20 Potential when casting from this path or using this discipline, respectively.
