Firetouched
"When we saw her glistening orange hair, bright as flame, we knew that the spirits had given us a great blessing."Of all the places and ethnicities of The Eye, Firetouched were most commonly born to the Teleran of Arrboth, especially in their heyday before the days of the empire. Given their ties to fire, many of them openly welcomed this, and a small but significant population of them still exist in Sen'ssinai as a result. Apart from this, these planetouched have originated occasionally from other cults that worship fire, though they are especially rare in Nalanosa. They are ostracized to a degree in not only Chal due to its ties with their opposing Elemental Lord, but Arrboth as well due to a rocky history with the Teleran. As such, many Firetouched, often called Emberkin or, in Teleran circles, the Pyreborn, are typically relegated to wandering wilderness or deserts. In many cases, this proves to suit them just fine. Holding little love for civilization's stagnancy, many of these fall in with tribes and nomadic bands. The ones that stay tend to be ambitious and impulsive, seeking to improve their own stature in whatever groups they join. While they have reputations for anything from violence to sabotage, those that treat them with respect often find they have a boundless, infectious enthusiasm for everything they do.
Racial Modifiers
- Characteristics: Firetouched gain a +1 to POW and CON, but suffer a -1 to WP. They have considerable energy and force of personality, but are often impulsive and rash.
- Resistance: Firetouched gain immunity to 5 Intensities of Heat, but also take 50% more damage from Cold.
- Sourcefire: Even without other supernatural abilities, Firetouched hold an uncanny ability for utilizing flame. By spending a Fatigue, they may imbue their element into their attacks for three rounds, allowing them to use Heat as a secondary damage type, regardless of the attack's nature. This does not change the nature of the attack - a punch or blade can still be blocked, for instance. If the attack is already capable of dealing Heat damage, it gains +10 Base Damage. This ability cannot be used when submerged in water.
- Burning Soul: Thanks to the rich spiritual energy they hold, whenever a Firetouched uses an ability that sacrifices Life Points (whether it is a ki technique, spell, artifact, or psychic power), they only have to spend half as many LP for the same result. This does not increase the upper limits of the ability - for example if only 40 LP are allowed to be sacrificed at maximum, they will sacrifice 20 and gain the full effect.
- Impulsive: Firetouched suffer a -20 to Composure in most cases, but gain a +20 to it when using it to resist attempts to externally control their behavior. They also gain +20 to Style and Dance.
- Aversion to Water: While Firetouched only need a third as much water to live as Humans, they also have a -20 to Swim checks and must make an Easy Composure check to willingly enter or remain in water due to their elemental ancestry giving them an irrational aversion to it.
- Flame's Glow: Though to a lesser degree than the Aasimar, Firetouched are capable of producing light from their eyes or hair in the form of short-lived, smoldering embers. These intensify with their emotions, which can be alternatively entrancing or terrifying depending on the situation. They gain +20 to Intimidate and Persuasion (Seduction) while using this and can produce light up to the degree of a torch. This ability cannot be used when submerged in water.
- Imbalance towards Fire: Firetouched that learn elemental abilities are obligated to focus in those related to Fire first. In other words, their first Path of Magic or Elemental Compatibility must be Fire, and their first Psychic Discipline must be Pyrokinesis. However, they gain an additional +10 MA or +20 Potential when casting from this path or using this discipline, respectively, and any attacks based on their element gain +10 Base Damage (this stacks with Sourcefire if active).
