Harpy

A primal avian race and the ancestral enemies of the Icarus. The harpies are thought to be distant relatives of the Garuda.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Harpy are split into three very distinguished kinds of tribes.   The first, and most recognizable of the three would be the Sky Tribe Harpy. Within the tribe however, there are two set variants of Sky Harpy. The first is a simply and full humanoid body outfitted with talons and claws in place of their hands and feet, with feathers lining up and down their bodies from head to toe. attached to their arms and legs are a set of foldable wings, made to expand into their full length when the Harp is ready to soar. The second variant, while not entirely different than the latter, takes on a more primal state, bearing the same size on average, but the lower body of a hawk with a powerful set of wings in place of arms.   Harpies of the Ocean Tribe have a softer, less animalistic appearance. Resembling the more humanoid members of the Sky Tribe, Ocean Harpies, often known as sirins, are humanoid in appearance with scales going up along their bodies from head to toe. on their arms and legs are feathered fins, made to fold back and become perfect for swimming. Though the Ocean Tribe Harpies are adept aquatic hunters, their feathered fins can also allow them the ability to glide and soar for brief periods of time.   The final and most powerful of the Harpy Tribes, the Birds of Paradise, act as the ancient ruling class over all Harpies. The closest in genetics and power to their ancestors, the Garuda, The Birds of Paradise are also humanoid in appearance, their bodies adorned in many colorful feathers. In addition to the pairs of wings attached to their arms and backs, the Birds of Paradise also boast two large and powerful full pairs of wings on their back, giving them the angelic grace and agility in the skies that is unmatched by even the most skilled fliers, man or beast. Where the Sky and Ocean tribes have more humanoid appearances, the Birds of Paradise have a more feral look them, their claws and fangs sharper. It's thought that these harpy fully are able to harness the power of their great ancestors, but at the cost of their sanity in most cases.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Harpies are not known to have male members except in the most rare occasions. As such, they are known to lure in and kidnap men with the intention of mating. Afterwards, the men are killed and eaten and the harpies lay several eggs, waiting to repeating the process.

Growth Rate & Stages

Harpies are, like most avian creatures, hatched from eggs. The eggs typically don't take long to mature, hatching in around 2-6 months depending.
